So let me ask you all this ...
Do you wash your produce, greens and herbs grown in the AG?
I do not as there are no bugs, critters or chemicals. I ask because I see many people washing them but do not know why. I can see if you bought them because you never know what is on them. But why if you grow?
Just curious.

I don't usually wash my greens because they get used so quickly, but for anything that fruits like tomatoes and peppers, i'll give them a quick rinse just because I know they've been sitting there getting ripe for several weeks, and they'll likely have a thin layer of dust on them. Giving them a quick rinse gives me peace of mind that i'm not eating any dust.

Hello, new member (addict) here. I don't wash my greens either. I occasionally put them in ice water to try to crisp them though. I just discovered on another group that if they are moved by a fan as they would be outdoors in the wind that the leaves are crisper so I got a nice quiet, bladeless fan and this does seem to make a small difference.

I do not wash mine either, but that is just greens and herbs. I can see what ASFx is saying about larger veggies or fruits rinsing off. I guess it also depends on how high traffic area the gardens are being kept? While commercial produce you need to rinse off the dirt and chemicals, not so in AGs. But if the area they are in is prone to dust, I could see rinsing them. That being said (and I try to really not think about this too much), but air in the home can be way more polluted than outside, especially in the winter. But I do not think there is any reason to really worry about rinsing / washing greens and herbs.

I was trying not to think about the air quality too much either, but my mind got the best of me and I ordered two air filters. One for my office, and one for my bedroom, which are the two rooms i'm in 95% of the time. My AG also happen to be in my office right now, so I feel pretty good about that setup. I've been thinking about getting some "air cleaning" plants to put around my home, but I still need to put more research into that.

I figure if there is dust on the counter, especially by the paper towel which is where my lettuce and herb gardens are, there is dust on my plants. Just sayin'.

Next, I guess I am a clean freak. I dust every day, I vacuum every other day. I clean counters and yes I dust my units several times a day. We have central Air cleaner/purifiers and I have mini units around my house. I guess having a child with asthma helped me with that habit.
And if a little dust gets in the air, oh well. We ate dirt and worms when I was a kid so a little dust wont kill me

It depends. If my garden is overgrown then there’s probably more dust on them than I’d like. And, more importantly, it depends for me where the units are located. I have 2 in the laundry room and inevitably there is lint from the dryer settling on things. So I try not to put herbs in those units. I hate mincing herbs after washing them, it’s so much harder because they all stick to the knife more.

I wash lettuce in a salad spinner, because my aerogarden sprout is in the garage which gets warm. It crisps up the lettuce. Also, after I used seeds not from AeroGarden, I found a green worm, about an inch long munching on my new collard greens, which BTW grow super fast in the sprout. So I will be washing every time now.

When I grow lettuce or basil, they tremble in their boots when they see me coming -- because I will pinch leaves off and pop them directly in my mouth.
If they have been in the refrigerator a day or two, I wash them in case anything (mold) is starting to grow on them.
