Since I picked up two EarthBox units I decided to try tomatoes and eggplant in them. On the right I’ve planted a Better Boy tomato plant. This poor seedling fell over in the cup I originally bought it in and had its main stem damaged. As a result it’s growing from the two branches that were left. It seems happy enough now that it’s in the EB though! On the left I’m planning to grow a Patio Baby eggplant. My Patio Baby seedlings really took off while I was out of town last week and my plan was to harden them off when I got home. Unfortunately my aphid problem reaches one of those plants so now I just have one remaining. That’s okay since I didn’t really have a spot for the other anyway.

just a little tip from my outdoor attempts with eggplant: they attract aphids BIG time. You may want to get some Lady Bugs and add them to your garden because of this . It may reduce the chance of them getting inside again. Ladybugs LOVE to dine on aphids.fwiw

These EarthBox containers are really making life easy for me and these outdoor plants. My Better Boy tomato plant (pictured on the right) is growing FAST out there. I’ve also added a Cherokee Carbon plant (pictured on the left) to the container which is about 2 weeks behind the Better Boy. Both plants seem very happy. And here are the tomatoes with their pepper neighbors. Keep in mind that this was what they looked like just 4 weeks ago. The Patio Baby eggplant was transplanted outdoors just about a week ago, and it also seems pretty happy. It started blooming almost immediately.

I do tend to really go all-in on the things I’m interested in. 🤷♂️

The growth of these tomato plants is pretty unbelievable sometimes. I keep watching the top of the trellis to see when they’re going to pass it. Should happen sometime this week I think. Several clusters of tomatoes have started growing on the Better Boy plant. I expect it’ll be another couple of weeks before the Cherokee Carbon starts fruiting. Meanwhile the Patio Baby has several eggplants growing.

I’ve got several clusters of the Better Boy tomatoes happening. No signs of fruit on the Cherokee Carbon yet. It’s a month behind though. I did harvest some tiny eggplants from the Patio Baby but I forgot to snap pictures. They’re so small that I’m having a hard time convincing my brain that they’re ready to harvest.

What is your opinion on the earthbox? Odd question but do you think theyd work indoors?

What is your opinion on the earthbox? Odd question but do you think theyd work indoors? So far I’m very happy with the EarthBox systems. They’ve been easy peasy. Especially after I added the self-watering system before I went out of town last week. Now I’m just pruning and treating for pests. I don’t think they’re ideal for indoor gardening but I suppose if you had a space large enough to hang some large grow lights they’d do as well as any other system indoors.
