The pods that came with my new Harvests are in a plastic tray so they don't get knocked around. They are also joined at the bottom instead of having any loose legs. And the whole thing is sealed in mylar.
I used old pods to start my herbs this time. I just discovered the new ones when I got a new basil pod to replace one that didn't germinate.
The new packaging should help a lot with keeping pods viable longer!

Yes, I noticed that as well. It seems it started with the 2019 models.

I wish they would come up with some new flower ideas in their kits...or bring back some of their good older ones.
I have done all their kits and even have gone custom using those as a template. I think they are concentrating on marketing vegetables for their Farms now and mostly selling Herbs, Peppers, Lettuces , toms and other vegetables....to the sake of forgetting all about the loyal flower kit customers/lovers who grow in Ultras, Bounties and other viable older models.

Shawn, after I posted that, I realized it had been a long time since I had bought pods. I was buying sponges and making my own. But it was a nice innovation to stumble onto!
Corinne, I also am disappointed in the lack of flower pod choices. I did an image search last week and loved some of the combinations they used to offer.

Someone asked that question at their live podcast yesterday and I THINK they may. Let me ask my contact there. I have to answer her anyway.

This is interesting! I have the kits that came with the three machines I bought, and I got an additional kit or two when I first started (Jan 2019). They are all "old" kits. I had wondered how well they stored just in flimsy paper boxes exposed. So far, the kits are still growing well. I have one more herb kit that I will use who knows when. I will be interested to see the "new" kits whenever it is I encounter them. Thanks for sharing Sher!

The kits I order seem to randomly alternate between carefully packed pods in a plastic tray inside a mylar bag and loose pods rolling around in a cardboard box. I guess they have lots of the old pods still stashed in Amazon warehouses?
One interesting thing: I recently requested a replacement pod for Italian parsley that did not germinate. It was my first time asking for a replacement, so I can't compare it to any previous experience. I had been told they would want information from my original packaging (which I had), but the only thing they asked was whether my pod had come in a mylar bag or not.
I got the impression they are gathering data on whether the new packaging affects the viability of the pods.

Yes dianne , they do ask for the original packaging info IF you have it. Not everyone keeps it. I also agree that they may be gathering info.

I have had a similar experience, dianne. The first few times, I emailed them and gave them the package info. But the last few times, I just emailed them and said these pods did not germinate, and they just sent them out. In the emails, they always provide links to AG FAQs about proper growing.
