This will be my very first time seed starting to plant veggies outside. I am going to try two different tomato plants in for my EB.
So today I planted two pods each of Burpee Roma VF and Burpee Bushsteak Hybrids. The Bushsteaks are said to grow 20-24" in height with 8-12oz fruits. We shall see.
This may work well. I can put the Bushsteaks in front and the Romas in back and can turn the EB with the sun angles.
This this time the are being housed with my Red Robin. They will eventually go to their own machine but I am kinda hoping I can get some lettuce in first. @cornne , do you think I will be able to get a few harvests of lettuce before they have to be moved?

Sure! I have a front row of lettuce growing in a machine with some other slow growing projects in the back row. Why not?  |

I have not grown the beefsteaks, but used to grow the Romas every year. They are superb for canning and dehydrating, as well as being a nice firm tomato for cooking. I also enjoyed them fresh.

I have never grown tomatoes at all before my heirlooms. I want the beefs for salads and sandwiches and I hope, if successful to use the romas for my sauce/gravy (there is a debate with me, my family and friends on what you call it). |

I am in shock, they all are up and over the pod, well three are, one is at the label. I took a picture but will post tomorrow. That seems fast to me.

My Bushsteaks had one of two seeds germinate in each pod. Both seeds in each pod grew in the Romas. I guess it is time to remove one of the two Romas.  |

I really need to remove one of the two in the Romas. I will also need some solo cups to plant in. @cornne , at what height do I put in said solo cups? Can these stay in here for a while longer?  |

Those can definitely stay, but the way I tell is by the roots in the water. If I see roots dangling in the water, I just stick them in soil and they take off from there.I guess I use the starter just for germination and to get a start of the roots. I remember a few years back leaving them in so long that the roots all got tangled up in the water. What a mess trying to separate!

That is a good choice because the smaller the container, the sooner one has to transplant into a larger one. Tomatoes grow roots from anything that is in soil, so the deeper they are planted, the more roots will form and grow downward nice and strong. Good Choice. I just chose some real deep buckety pots from the garage earlier to transplant next week. Here is Ray talking about the next step after the cups or smaller pots.
