I've been thinking about picking up the 23-cell seed starter top for the AeroGarden Harvest, and running just distilled water to get plants started...
One thing I can't find any information on is how the seed starter top works with the water pump and channels that are normally used. Does the top connect to the pump? If so, does water flow to all of the cells, or only certain cells?

The pump running keeps the water that the pods are standing in aerated. No drip needed in the germination stage with the seed starting setup.

Instead of using the normal pod material, I've been using 1in x 1in cubes of rockwool. Since it doesn't reach down to the water level, it relies on the pump to wet the rockwool...
Looking at the design of the seed starter, I'm starting to think that it doesn't use the drip mechanic, but confirmation would be appreciated!
Worst case I'll just use the default tray and try to restrain my seed starting urges...

No, the seed starter tray does not use the drip method. The sponge needs to be long enough to be submerged to wick up water.
I have seen people cut a rock wool cube to put in the bottom of the pod to wick water up to the rockwool in the top of the pod.
But I've also read that bits of rockwool can come loose and damage the pump.
If you want a drip system, you will need to use the regular Harvest pod deck with the pump post. But those pods should also be partially submerged, too.
If you want a very cheap pod medium, one of the guys (Mike, I think), uses Frost King air conditioner seal foam cut to size. Try a search for more info.

Thank you! I'll stick with the normal tray then.
I do have Frost King Air Conditioner Weatherseal, but I've never gotten it to wick up water successfully...
