Red Windowbox Tomatoes 4/16

My beautiful tomatoes turned out bland and completely tasteless.

It was my fault -- and I managed to fix the problem.

Because I had fried my last two tomato attempts with overfeeding them, I was overly cautious with these.

I started the previous tomato attempt with 8 ml AG nutrients. It was too high, and the tomatoes were curled over and too dark. When I switched to the 12 ml at the 3rd feeding, it killed them.

So I started this batch at 6 ml, and then kept them at 7.5 ml. They matured and looked beautiful. But when I tasted the first ripe tomatoes, they had no flavor at all. They were worse than awful.

So I did some research and that's when discovered that I was way under feeding them. I should have started pumping up the nutrients when the first tomatoes appeared.

I started using a low nitrogen, high phosphorus bloom booster and increasing the nutrient strength. At 900 ppm, they started tasting like watery tomatoes. At 1200 ppm, they started tasting really good. Bright, sweet and juicy.

I think they would be even better at 1400 ppm, but the leaves are telling me they have all the nitrogen they want right now,

So I finally have the delicious little tomatoes I hoped for.

They are already putting on flowers for the next crop!

I got these to taste delicious already. I hope I can keep this project going for a long time!
