Has anyone tried growing any carnivorous plants (venus flytraps, pitchers, etc) in an Aerogarden? In theory, I think it would work well - just drop the seeds in a pod, and never add nutrients. Here's some pics of something I'm growing that might be one? It's a slow grower - this was planted on March 11th! It's not in my Aerogarden, but it has only had distilled water. No nutrients or minerals of any kind. (you can see a bunch of other stuff started in the background - sometimes I feel like I'm trying to win an award for the most plants on one shelf)

Great idea for those who experience gnats a lot.

I just gave one of my Sprouts to my son - he is going to try growing Fly Traps and possibly Pitcher plants. He is attempting to grow from seed. I imagine it will take quite a while for germination. He just started them a couple days ago with distilled water & no fertilizer. I believe one of the varieties had to be stratified, so it's in the fridge for a while before planting.

Please keep us updated on his progress. I have also wondered if a Fly Trap would grow in an Aerogarden.

I’ve been growing traps for 3-4 years now. If you get these to germinate in an aerogarden I’d be surprised. They don’t like lots of water. Fact it’ll kill them, or in this case probably never grow.
In the summer months I water every 10-14 days, which consists of pouring distilled water into a drainage tray, about a 1/2 inch deep that the potted plant sits in. Spragmoss will soak up the water as needed thru the bottom drainage in the pot and keep the plants roots mildly moist. This is all it needs to grow and thrive.
Pouring water over the top, which is what an aerogarden basically does, or around the plants /spragmoss will highly encourage mold growth and rot the rhizome which kills the plant.
VFT seeds should germinate in 10-14 days if planted properly, but the plant is a very slow grower taking 2-4 years depending on conditions to fully mature.
VFT need a 3-4 month dormant period starting in Nov-Feb every year. I put mine in my refrigerator and water once a month. How much light it gets during dormancy in a non issue. If the plant doesn’t go dormant 3-4 months every year it will eventually wither and die.
The bounty classic strawberry bowl kit would be about the best thing to try with VFT growing in an aerogarden. Even that is a stretch thou.
