My Bounty at work was growing Cascading Petunias wonderfully when we were laid off for the Covid mess. We were expecting to be laid off for 11 days. For me, it turned into two months. When I returned, it was a crusty dried mess. Today I brought the basin home to clean. I've been wanting to try using a vinegar bath to see how it would work. Well, on the left is what I started with. I had about a half gallon of year old apple cider vinegar to use. (center) After an hour and a half, I poured off the vinegar and rinsed it out. After a brief wipe down with a damp sponge, the right photo is what I ended up with. Now I need to find something to totally submerge the grow deck in. Vinegar works great.

It's not sand. After a week laid off, the boss called about the extended layoff. I asked him to unplug the garden. This was mid-March. I was called back the last week of May. The water was gone and the roots had fossilized. I touched them and they turned to a very light powder. I dug out the solids, but you see what was left. Caked on crud.

Here is the new bin with two Bounty decks disassembled and soaking in two gallons of distilled vinegar. It doesn't cover all of it. I will have to rearrange after an hour or so. The bin comes with a nice white cover so I won't have to smell the vinegar much.

I didn't get everything out of there, but I'm happy. These decks are ready to use again.

That is so good to know, Mike. I have an oval plastic tub that mine will fit into.
I have read that the vinegar works better when it's heated, like when you use it to descale a coffee pot. I'll give it a try when I have an empty machine.

That is good to know, although it probably gets a bit pungent. That will be useful, soon.
