#AGnewbie911 #DAY28
I am at a CRITICAL POINT and I NEED ALL THE ADVICE I can get. It has been 28 days since I started my FarmXL garden. Today is the day I do my first water change and add my 3rd dose of plant food.
UNFORTUNATELY, only the basil (right side) and the eggplant (left side) have made it up through the hole and I am not sure the eggplant will make it.
I used tap water, and stuck to the plant food instructions on the plant food bottle - 3 caps full on day 1 and 6 caps full on day 14 for each side. The light (17hrs-on since day 1) and pump cycle (1hr-on every 12hrs for weeks 1 and 2, and 30mins on, 30 mins off for weeks 3 and 4) were controlled by the AG.
#rightside #12pods
Besides the Basil, the seed action in 6 pods which showed promise of sprouting, seemed to have gone the way of rot and mould - Collard Greens, Red Sails, Kale Mix, Chives, Cilantro and mint. 2 showed no action at all - Bok Choi, Italian Parsley.
I planted Black Seeded Simpson, Marvel of 4 Seasons, and Rouge d'Hiver on day 14 - only the Rouge d'Hiver shows any actions 14 days later and it looks unlikely to make it through the hole.
#leftside #10pods
The Fairy Tale Eggplant is out but obviously struggling. While waiting on the Golden Harvest, Heirloom Cherry and Poblano Peppers to touch the grow dome, they rotted and moulded.
4 seed pods that showed some action, did not move beyond that - they did not sprout - Jalapeno, Bell Pepper, Red Fire Pepper, Purple Super Hot
2 seed pods showed no action at all - Baby Greens and Salad Greens.
What am I doing WRONG?!?!? Where should I go from here 😟🥺😟🥺😟🥺😟

Pictures may help. I do not own a farm so can not help with the amount of nutes given. I do know that lettuce likes a lot less nutes then herbs and veggies. Herbs and lettuce like colder water while tomatoes and peppers like it warmer. Peppers I know use a lot more nutes then herbs and lettuce. It had also been recently learned, that it is best not to add nutes until the plants grow above the pods. Doing this stops any algae that may ruin your seedlings. Read about it here. I (along with others on the forum) no longer add nutes when we plant but do at a later time. I have not grown any of the greens you have so can not speak on those. I do know that cilantro and mint are harder to get germinated, but once they do they can thrive. You may want to get new kits from AG since these failed UNLESS you still have more pods. Try starting over using no nutes. Other members will add what they know. Don't Give Up! We ALL have fails. This is what makes us learn as we go.

Thank you! I am honestly afraid to start without nutes, because I used tap water. I believe AG needs to be specific about how much nutes to use for what and which plants can and can't grow together. As is, I used standard operating procedures over the last 4 weeks in keeping with ALL the instructions given. I will try to control the temperature better going forward. I am thinking of moving it to my bedroom where I have an AC unit.

If you do not want to start over. Why not do a dump and refill without nutes. Carefully wipe off any algae on the pods that you do have without damaging the plants. While AG states to add nutes, the plants will still grow and germinate without. Nutes can be added at a later time. Please do what ever you think is best. We all have different growing styles.

I have a Farm XL. I transplanted my tomatoes and peppers over to it from Harvests. Once in the Farm I began having nutrient issues — some sort of deficiencies. I’m working to figure out exactly what is low and how long it will take to correct.
Did you lower the lights on your Farm to the lowest position? That’s the only thought I can come up with off-hand.
Only other thing I can think of is to wonder if any sort of chemical agents (from house cleaning) could have contaminated your grow. Do any sort of cleaning agents get used near it? Anything in the house that might circulate and land in it (maybe candles or plug in air fresheners?). If you aren’t the one who does the housecleaning your might want to verify that no one has “wiped down” the surfaces with anything...

Hello patriciad Welcome to the forum! I do not know what the nutrients should be in a farm. I do know that in the Bounty I will add up to 12ml for peppers. But it increases over time to that. I (not that it is the case for you) add a calcium supplement to my peppers but this too does not start right away.

On my bottle of AG plant food it says, for systems with 12 pods (like the farm) 4 capfuls at start and at the 2nd feeding (which would be 14 days), and then 6 capfuls every two weeks thereafter. You might have something different but it is possible you did give too much of the nutrients on day 14. That might be the problem, but I doubt it. Someone mentioned having the lights all the way down. Hopefully you did that. You mention moving the Farm to a room with AC. How hot is the room they were in? I believe under 80 F should be OK, for most plants, especially if they are only starting. If the room is in the mid 70s, it is definitely OK. Hotter than 80, it might be your problem. I have heard of a problem where the pump was defective and not running on a new system. Do you hear them running? It may be an issue with your water. Apparently nearly all tap water is OK, but not all tap water. Mine is not good. You could experiment trying distilled water to see if it makes a difference. I use reverse osmosis (RO) water from an under sink filter that I bought on Amazon for around $150. If you are handy, you can install it yourself. If not, a handyman or plumber might charge $150 to install. I still have to test the water in my AG units regularly and adjust the pH because it gets too acidic. You can buy a pH tester and adjustment solutions on Amazon too for around $15. If it is your water, I highly recommend getting an under sink RO unit. My water tastes a lot better from the RO unit too.
I really suspect your water. Lettuce germinates in days and by day 14 should be well past the label. Even if you did add too much of the nutrients on day 14, they should have been much farther along already by then.
