I moved to Georgia from Michigan a year ago. In MI we had well water. Here in GA we have city water. In Mi I used store bought distilled water and here I use city water which I read is acceptable for my aerogardens. I never had a mold issue with distilled water and was so happy to be able to use tap water and not having to lugging water, back problems. But what a mess I am having with this mold. It is white to light pink or a tinge of orange all around the rim of my Harvest Slims and calcium buildups on my Bounties. I run bleach through the system between planting and disassemble the decks as well. I have not tried to go back to distilled but maybe I should but I have 4 Bounties and 2 Slims and go through a lot of water. Any advise on how to battle the mold would be appreciated or I maybe I should just quit whining and deal with it. Thanks! I am having a problem inserting a pic but will continue to try to post. photos.app.goo.gl/1pMhzySRWWGPpoyB7link

Hi Karen On my older Harvests I do get the beige stuff, but it is crystallized, never foamy or fuzzy like a mold.. and later hardens to the point where I have to scrape it off with something sharp if I let it be. Is yours foamy? Is it mold or calcification from the nutes?Lately I have been keeping after it with a sponge in the seams, but it is a real big problem especially in older machines.I try to wipe off the decks a few times a week.
Mike has given some tips about soaking in a vinegar/water wash and it works for sanitizing and sprucing up AFTER a project is done. But during the months of growth, it goes on and on. It seems to be a long standing complaint from many.

Hi, Karen.
I live in NW Georgia and use my well water.
I think the pink mold spores must be airborne here. I get it aroud my shower drain, in my dog's water bowl if I just refill instead of emptying and bleaching it first.
With our humidity down here, we seem to have more problems with mold. It's a constant fight to keep my toilet bowl mold free. Even with air conditioning.
Very fortunately I have had zero problems with pink mold in my Aerogardens though.
I wish I could be of more help.

we had that a long time ago around the tub. I never let water sit there. I always dry the walls and around the tub. No more pink mold. I think it is the humidity myself. Here is something I found: Also from Bob Villa (Pink Mold in shower but I can can pertain anywhere)

This is the first time I am hearing of this yukky stuff! Internet photos are disgusting !
I guess what I have on my AG's is calcification from nutrients totally because what I hear from this thread is the pink mold is not hard and crusty. Never again will I complain about the calcification!

That js very informative, Shawn. After I read your post I did an image search, too. Ours is the pink staining type instead of the moldy looking type.
I will check out the Bob Vila link. Thanks so much!
