Oops on the low water. You aren't the only one who has done that!
I am happy that the others are doing well.
And I like your light a lot better! I've watched comparisons on Youtube, and I bet your plants are happier, too.

They do seem a little perkier compared to yesterday when I replaced them! Although that might just be my bias against the colored lights, I've always preferred the white lights lol

My herbs are getting bigger The three basils: Oregano and thyme: The re-planted parsley and valerian haven't sprouted, but it's still early for them. The kohlrabi doesn't seem to be growing much to me? I looks healthy but I don't really see a bulb forming. And it may not with Kratky, no idea lol

They all look healthy and happy to me.
I think the kohlrabi might form a bulb in a larger Kratky container. It will be interesting to see if it works in the bottle. Some plants grow differently in confined quarters, even in smaller pots.
Looking forward to seeing what it does!

The parsley has sprouted! Hopefully I won't kill this one lol The only thing the valerian pod has grown so far is that weird white mold that likes to grow on AG pods. It's been swabbed off with peroxide, I'm still holding out hope for more!

Parsley's up enough to take off the grow dome, and the valerian's showing signs of life!! The Kohlrabi has a couple leaves that look like they're starting to die off and I'm wondering if it's time to add nutrients? I haven't added to any of these since starting them, and have no idea if I'm supposed to keep to the same feeding schedule as the AGs (in which case I need to add to all of them). Any tips from people who do Kratky would be much appreciated!

You definitely need to feed them.
You can try 5 ml gallon of AG nutrients and gradually increase as the plants grow.
Kratky is supposed to be set and forget it, but I have better results changing out the nutrients every two weeks (leaving room for air roots) in small containers.
My reasoning is that plants take up different nutrients at different rates, and it is very easy for them to become imbalanced with such a small volume of nutrients.

These are still pretty young and tender and decidedly did NOT enjoy being spritzed with the insecticide soap. But they are getting big!!

They are growing up!
About insecticidal soap, I have killed several plants using it. The tender, young tips are pretty sensitive to it. Of course, I did drench mine instead of simply spraying them. I may have drowned them!
Maybe using half strength wouldn't injure them? I will try that next time I use it.
In any case, I am loving watching your experiments!

Last shot of the kratky before I change things up!! The Kohlrabi hasn't really had any growth for a while, so I'm going to cut and eat the leaves and end the project. The rest of these are going to get transplanted out of the bottles to new homes.

What a great use for these bottles!
As I read through the posts I was thinking about asking about the purple light. A big part of growing plants for me is enjoying looking at them. Those lights really diminish the experience for me. Maybe they are meant for more profitable grows, rather than fun ones? Not sure.
As for the insecticidal soap, I'm always curious about how much people are spraying on that it is making the plants unhappy. I spray just enough to cover but not to the point of dripping. And multiple applications are usually needed. So usually I'll spray every 2-3 days over the life cycle of the insect.

Thank you for the tip on how to use insecticidal soap, @zyphax!
I will buy another bottle and try it your way. I bet it would be an excellent preventive against infestations.

Oh yeah, getting rid of the purple was the best move I’ve made for that entire room, it was really an eyesore! I’m not entirely sure what the benefit is vs the white lights that I prefer, the purple that I was using originally are older ones that I bought when I didn’t really know much about indoor gardening, and it was only because those were all I had around the house at the time. I’ve since tossed them out, white light all the way!
Also, thank you for the tip on the soap, I was soaking the plants pretty good. I’ll spray them less but more frequently and see if that helps!

I did some research into ugly blurple lights versus nice clean white lights back when I was first getting into hydroponics. My understanding is that back when LED lights were first coming to the market for indoor gardeners, some Chinese companies were using less white LEDs because the red and blue were cheaper to produce, and they marketed it heavily towards growers of the plant that shall not be named. The companies were offering paid promotions to growers with YouTube channels or blogs if they wrote up a positive review of the light and showed what could be done under them, since at the time everyone thought that LED lights would be too weak to grow anything. This led to a large surge in information about growing plants with the blurple lights, and once gardeners saw how much they could lower their electricity bill by switching to LED lights, they did so and perpetuated it by posting their experience with the lights. The blurple lights also don't shine as brightly as white lights do for the same light output, so if you were trying to hide what you were growing, it made some sense in that regard. Although now that light color makes it pretty obvious that someone is growing some type of plant I'm not exactly sure when white LED plant lights became popular again, but I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of that market was influenced by the AeroGarden products once they switched from bulb to LED. (even today, the blurple vs. white debate still goes on, although in my opinion there isn't much difference aside from the former ruining photos and causing some people headaches)

Interesting!! It makes sense that it was popularized because of cheaper production. I personally never noticed any difference in growth between the two lights, the purple just made me hate going into the room to care for my plants. Looking in that corner always made my eyes hurt.
Also, it never fails to make me angry how much indoor gardening and hydroponics is geared towards MJ, it makes it so hard to research legitimate gardening. I just want to be able to google things without getting a bunch of druggies thrown at me, and that’s pretty much always too much to hope for.
