Strawberry Variety: Unknown- purchased from Aerogarden Planted: 12/27/17 I bought the kit with the bowl, growing medium, and strawberry crowns. It came with 10 crowns and the instructions said to only plant 6, so I put the best looking ones in here and the rest in my DIY setup. These seem to be doing much better, but I don't know if that is because of the ebb and flow system, or because I choose correctly. I did modify their directions slightly- they say to set the pump to wet the medium only once a week. That seems insanely low, so I have it set to run once every two days. So far that seems to be doing what they said it was supposed to- the top stays dry and the bottom of the bowl the medium is damp, but not wet.

They’re pretty little plants.

I've also been VERY curious about that grow bowl, but not for strawberries. Even though I love them, probably shouldn't eat them.
I'll be following this, too, but what I really want to know is what else can be grown in that setup.

I purchased two more sets with the $199 bug, and they are going to get a blueberry bush in each. I'm not sure I can get my hands on any until their normal shipping time in the spring. Once they come in, I'll chat with someone at the nursery up the road to see if they can get me stock in the offseason.
Basically, it turns the Aerogarden into an ebb and flow system, so anything that prefers that style of hydroponics is a good candidate. If you are looking at plants not designed for hydroponics, then I think you would be looking for things that prefer drier or well-drained soil.
I wonder if you could even do some small root veggies- there's no standing water to make them rot. If I can't get the blueberries right away I might experiment there.

Could be a good candidate for cukes as well.

Been picking off flowers these past few days. One guide said wait till they had 6 sets of leaves, and the other said pick off the first set of flowers regardless. While a couple plants have enough leaf sets, I don't feel like they've had sufficient time to establish, so I'm going with the second instruction set and picking off all the flowers. They were also looking a bit limp, and the media is pretty close to completely dry, so I'm increasing the water from once every two days to once a day. Based on how often I need to feed my fountain and my humidifiers, my apartment is extremely dry.

I’ve been finding the air where I live extremely dry, and I live in a sub-Mediterranean environment. My nose hurts, and it shouldn’t. I’m not surprised if your plants don’t like it either.

Could be a good candidate for cukes as well. I agree. It might be the way to go. I’ll look forward to your experiment. Hah.

The strawberries in the grow bowl are definitely much healthier at this point than the two that are showing signs of life in my DIY DWC system, so this has been a win for strawberries at least- so far.

Just a new pic. If I don't keep track I don't realize just how much these have grown in the past three weeks.

So tell me, do you think I could grow garlic or shallots in the grow bowl?

I am a major gardening novice- this is my FIRST ever garden. But people seem to grow way more intensive stuff, so it doesn't seem very farfetched. Like one of the things the grow bowl is for is dwarf bonsais.

So tell me, do you think I could grow garlic or shallots in the grow bowl?I've I'm thinking about trying, but I think it will be a bit trickier. The balance between making sure the plants get enough food but things are dry enough to prevent the bulbs from rotting will be a bit thinner. If you get that balance right it should work.

I haven't gotten my second set of blooms yet, but I've been trimming off runners, so they are happy and healthy.
