They are all growing so nicely. Do you find any birds or animals bothering them?

They are all growing so nicely. Do you find any birds or animals bothering them? No issues with animals, birds, or slugs yet. I've seen a lot of different bugs in the barrels (spiders, ants, wood lice, etc) but nothing that would harm the plants.

There are definitely a couple flowers now! There's also dozens of ground cherries, none ripe yet.

ERR0R1755, that is such a great way to garden. You won't need to fertilize for years!

ERR0R1755, that is such a great way to garden. You won't need to fertilize for years! And it's very cheap, too! I bought potting soil (without fertilizer) at $12/bag, and each barrel uses roughly 3/4th of a bag at the top. Everything else was free. (barrel, logs, food scraps, woodchips) I haven't used any fertilizers on these barrels, I haven't had to water them, and they're 3ft tall so I don't have to bend down to work with them

This was a success! I got over a hundred ground cherries just from the one plant. Some of them were hard to get to as the french marigolds started to overshadow the ground cherry plant, so in the future I think I would try a shorter/understory flower (such as clover) alongside the ground cherries. I threw some of the ground cherries around the garden, so hopefully they will reseed themselves next year. I thought I had posted more pictures here, but apparently I didn't. So here's a picture of a bumblebee and a (very active) moth.
