Sweet Jalapeno-(Capsicum annuum)-The Sweet Jalapeno is not your ordinary no heat regular Jalapeno. There are a few varieties bred that are no heat Jalapenos but they just have ordinary Jalapeno flavor. The Sweet Jalapeno does have a small or mild amount of heat. But also has a Jalapeno flavor with sweetness mixed in!! To get the most flavor from these it is suggested to harvest when red. The Sweet Jalapeno peppers are about 2 inches long and a half inch wide. They are great for fresh salsas, Pickling, stuffing, roasting and salads. Finally a flavorful Jalapeno the lightweights can enjoy, because not everyone is a fire eater!! The Sweet Jalapeno chile plants grow to 2 feet tall and are very heavy bearing. I'll be giving Jim Duffy's seeds an evaluation with the Sweet Jalapeno, Purple Jalapeno and the NuMex Pumpkin Spice seeds. These Sweet Jalapeno seeds are getting horrible reviews on Amazon. The Purple Jalapeno seeds aren't getting much better reviews. The NuMex seeds I expect to do well. The other two I have serious doubts about.
Jim usually throws in a packet or two of seeds with most orders to try for free. I think both of these were freebies. Jim Duffy is one of the BEST pepper growers there is. He takes criticism of his seeds quite personally, I think. Very few of us have that perfect California sun to grow under, though.
I am going to limit the heat on my peppers in the future. I don't want any more bags of peppers I can't give away in my freezer. I had a gal at work tell me I tried to wipe out her taste buds when I gave her some of my White Habaneros. Those ARE plenty hot, but no more than Habaneros from the grocery store. I wonder what they'd do if I made chili using the Scorpions that I won't even eat?

 I could handle jalapenos when I was younger. Now I can't even handle them. If your sweet jalapenos are milder, I might like to try them.

I'm right there with you, Sher! When I was younger, there were a lot of things that were easier? Sigh. Now, I want a good flavor. Plenty of spices, but not the hot kind. So, I'll be interested in the Sweet Jalapenos too. I use a lot of Jalapenos!! Not a lot of their seeds though. |

I did grow these however I had to end mine as the other plants were sucking the life out of mine. I think you will do much better with yours  |

I'm really pleased. It looks like they are all germinating. I may move two to a Bounty. I may do that with others, as well.

Off topic, but I have some new pepper seeds I want to try. I was wondering if I could attempt 2 to a Bounty instead of just one.

I thinned these down to one plant per pod today. I kept all four plants, for now. That will be reduced to two or three in two weeks or so. I also moved the plants to the outside left, right, front and back for spacing. The front will probably be removed. I may combine extras on Bounties.

These suckers are getting HUGE! I got rid of one plant today. I planted the seeds on Monday, July 5! I very well may need to get rid of the center one. I'm pretty sure these will have to be topped. These are even a smaller jalapeno than the NuMex Spice jalapenos. To get the true benefit you need to wait until these are red to eat. They do have a sweet flavor, then. But there may be an element of heat to them. I am looking forward to these, too.  |

I'm getting leaf curl on newer leaves. Usually that excess nutrients. But these are the last few days of the second 16 ml feeding. I'll have to keep my eye on these.

Maybe add a fan or cool the water a little? I have no idea but throwing ideas out.

It's relatively cool when I'm here. I'm not overly concerned yet. I feed them Monday. We'll see after that.

Added 20 ml Mooch. A few days early, no nutes yet. I want to see if it helps with the leaf curl. These plants are thirstier than the others.
