I cut back most of the leaves - in some of the previous photos, you could see some dry spots from where the extra leaves were causing airflow issues. I put the leaves on a window screen (propped up on each end) to dry. I'll find a use for them later.

Wow! Pretty! It looks very delicate? I am not sure how delicate they are, although I am sure I will find out next time I try to trim back the plant. Both the flowers and leaves of borage are edible, raw or cooked - the leaves are said to taste like cucumber (they certainly smell like cucumber) and the flowers are said to taste like honey. The flowers are commonly used as a garnish, like freezing them inside of ice cubes for drinks:

I’ve been wondering why anyone would grow Borage! Husband brought home a jar from the grocery spice aisle many years ago, and it had no discernible flavor. We never tried it again. Now it looks like something else that would be interesting to try fresh, because I like cucumbers and the flowers are so pretty.

I'm surprised it was being sold in a spice aisle, it loses most of the flavor once dried. I'm planning to try making a salve with some of what I am drying. I am planning to collect seed from this plant, so if you want me to mail you some once I have them, I would be happy to!

It looks different in pictures than in real life due to the lights, but the flowers start out pink and then turn blue:

This has been drinking a lot of water, so tonight I removed all of the stems except the main stem - none of them had flowers and I think I will get more than enough seeds from the main stem.

So - I have both good news and bad news. I was trimming up the plant a bit, removing any leaves that were starting to show signs of browning, and I pricked myself on some of the cacti-like spikes. As a result, my scalpel cut a bit too far into the plant and removed most of the main stem, which included all of the flowers...
So no seeds to be saved from this plant. But the good news is that I now have a Bounty that I can plant something new in!
Here's my self-survey: Plant Grown: Common Borage Grow Method: AeroGarden Bounty Time to Germinate: 7 days Time to First Harvest: 51 days (since germination) Time to Last Harvest: 66 days (since germination) Plant Spacing: 1 per Bounty Final Height: 18 inches Would I grow these again? Definitely! I will try this outdoors this summer. Lessons Learned: If I'm growing a plant with spikes or thorns, I need to be more careful.

I finally had time and energy to clean this AeroGarden out today. I added hydrogen peroxide and apple cider vinegar in an attempt to delay everything rotting, but it didn't help much.
It didn't smell bad... until I dumped it out to clean it. Very dark brown roots.
My advice is to clean your AeroGarden as soon as you can, or keep the plant alive until you have time to clean it!
