Got these planted!! The sage is going to stay in the machine, since the plant that I was going to replace it with bounced back from the watering fail that I thought was going to kill it.

So after 3 days of temps hitting 105 outside, the plants are doing well and it's not getting too terribly hot in the garage, so not looking like I'll have to do a portable AC out there!! That's a relief I've been keeping the garage door cracked when I'm at home, I think that helps a bit
One of the cucumbers didn't survive transplant but the other is doing great. The zucchini wilted a little bit but is bouncing back nicely!
The herbs
The turmeric and pomegranate are both thriving with the better lights and watering system
Tomatoes had to be tied up. I also have some sort of weird, bright yellow mushrooms coming up in some of the pots. Bought a fungicide, so hopefully that gets rid of them
The peppers
So far this has been a successful project, I'm looking forward to seeing if any veggies form up next!!

I'm so impressed, maskedsonnet ! What kind of fungicide are you using? I hate mushrooms in potted plants! Have you tried using a portable air conditioner before? I just bought one--a Honeywell evaporative cooler from Best Buy--and will try it out later this week.

I'm so impressed, maskedsonnet ! What kind of fungicide are you using? I hate mushrooms in potted plants! Have you tried using a portable air conditioner before? I just bought one--a Honeywell evaporative cooler from Best Buy--and will try it out later this week. I've never used a portable AC in my house, but we have one similar to this at work because the AC there is old and has trouble keeping up in the summer. If I'd gotten one for the garage it would have been an evap cooler so I wouldn't have to figure out an exhaust hook-up out there. I'm absolutely not up to the work of cutting through my walls, and there are no windows in the garage for me to use! The one at the office works really well, but I kind of hate it sometimes because of how much noise comes in through the window because of the exhaust being installed through it. Always grateful for it when it's 105 outside and 80 inside though!!
The fungicide is called Consan 20 and was the only one available at the local Ace. WalMart didn't have ANY to choose from. Didn't want to drive to the next town over to try the Lowes. I haven't applied it yet because I haven't had a chance to look through the labeling. The guy at Ace said it wouldn't kill other plants, but not sure yet if it's safe to use in pots with tomatoes and peppers. Don't want to grow poison fruits!! If I read through it and decide not to use it, I'll try vinegar to see if that'll kill them.

Yeah, hard pass on the fungicide. I don't even want to open it after reading the labeling, much less apply it anywhere near a plant growing something I plan to eat. Vinegar it is!!

Too bad about the fungicide. I read labels too, and am often surprised at how toxic some insecticides and fungicides are, when advertised as "safe". The grocery store "Safer" brand isn't too bad, as I recall. I bought the "swamp cooler" because we have sliding windows. There are some portable air conditioners that have vertical exhaust panels, but I doubt that they are tall enough to fit our big windows. And then there is always the homeowner's association to consider. The Board objects to anything that looks different on the outside.

I bought a copper fungicide once. After I read the label, I decided not to use it, either.
Mushrooms are very easy to dessicate (and discourage) if you keep a fan blowing on them.

lynnee I'm so glad I've never had to deal with a homeowner's association, the entire concept has always seemed wrong to me. I hope the evap cooler works well!
Sher I have a fan going in the garage at all times, hopefully it helps with the shrooms! In one of the pots the mushrooms got pretty big so I pulled them all up, and they haven't come back there yet. So far in the other pots they're very small, and I'm hoping a little vinegar and the heat kills them off this summer. If not I can always pull them too and hope they don't come back

They are persistent little things, maskedsonnet. The mycellium (microscopic root threads) are all throughout the soil. The mushrooms are the fruit of the mycellium, designed to grow, produce and spread the organism's spores.
i think hydrogen peroxide would be kinder to the plants than vinegar.. Maybe try 1 part of the peroxide with 3 parts water? It shouldn't hurt the plants, but it might kill the mycellium.
If you are afraid to use it that strong, you might try 1 part peroxide to 4 parts water. That should also give the roots a nice oxygen boost.
As always, I am not an expert and am just offering educated (kinda) guesses. Take them or leave them!

Excuse me if I am not reading this correctly or totally off base. I am still half asleep LOL... does vinegar kill mushrooms? If so I will start spraying those areas of my lawn.

From what I've read it does, but it may take several applications and can also kill any other plants you get it on (including grass, if you're using it on your lawn). So I'd have to be very careful not to get it on the other plants if I use it! I may go with Sher's suggestion of peroxide first!

I don't know if peroxide would work on mature mushrooms. I kind of doubt it. But it should keep them from coming up in that same spot again.

Back in town and the plants are doing well!
The peppers - there are mushrooms growing in the pot nearest to the camera, plucked those and threw them away after taking the photo.
The tomatoes:
The herbs - spearmint's not doing great, so may replace that soon, but all the others are good!
Turmeric and pomegranate:
Cucumber and zucchini - cucumber vine grew quite a bit while I was gone!
