It looks healthy. Depending on the variety I think you can have some purple. I only grow Thyme once a year. I will need to check what I have in the freezer to see mine.

I googled it and the most common answer is a lack of phosphorus.

I haven’t grown much thyme, but a month or two ago I grew some parsley and cilantro which weirdly both had purple sections. That was a first. And they weren’t custom Seeds, they were AG fed with AG nutes. So it’s a mystery.
However, some varieties of herbs and lettuces grow with the underside a different color so maybe this is normal for your thyme. I’d only worry if it starts to look unhealthy or stunted (like my parsley and cilantro did).

My thyme looks exactly like that..purple on the underside.I think it may be the variety.

I’ve only had my AG for five days but yesterday the thyme popped up and one set of baby leaves I can see is almost purple on the top even. Seems like it’s just the variety.

jcosmo. My thyme is also purple on underside. I initially thought it was some other plant. But, thyme’s aroma is very strong.

Just to crack open this thyme capsule again.. The purple leaves are not going to hurt anything but the plant is missing a needed nutrient (prosperous according to the internet) Why this is happening can be of multiple reasons, but for the AG gardener, don't worry about it, the plant will grow and taste just fine. My update is because I moved my thyme with the purple leaves outside into the garden quite a while ago. The leaves are all 100% green now, so to me, this answers the question as to if garden Thyme is supposed to be purple or not.

I have grown a LOT of thyme from different vendors. With all that I have grown they all had purple on the undersides. I used to only grow it once a year but since 2017 I grow it a lt of the "thyme" ...
I know they say it is a phosphorus but how can I have a lack of it every time I grow it? Just wondering how accurate that is for hydro growing. I can not say how it grows for soil as I have never grown it there.

It can be a lot of things from what I have been reading.. ph levels (certain nutes are not absorbed at different levels), temp of plant vs water etc.. Again, it does not seem to hurt anything as you already know.. just wanted to point out what happened to a plant that was purple and then was moved to a different environment.
