These are going to take a while to germinate, grow and bloom so I started them now for Fall Color on my deck.
Seeds: Rainbow Sherbert Celosia Vendor: Park Seed Grow Medium: Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix Container: The round ones I had my GAL in but now have these starting
I wet the mix, put more mix in and then sprinkled some seeds across the top. Added a tad bit of soil to cover and wet again and patted lightly. These are placed on the deck side that only gets the morning sun... until they start to come in then I will move them.
 that they grow and come in nicely. I only h ad two successes with outdoor plants. One seeds directly in and the other transplants from them indoors from the AG. Time will tell. I usually have a black thumb outdoors.
More if and when something happens.

Good luck! I know outdoor is definitely more of a gamble than AG. I'd say I kill about 50% of things, lol.

@cornne, we are supposed to get a weeks worth  of rain. Should I place some plastic wrap over my pots with holes it in? Or maybe put them under a chair? (If inder a chair it will still get filled with water just slower because of the mesh in the chairs)
Thoughts?  I ask because I don't know what the heavy or so much rain will do (like push the seeds further down or get to filled and maybe them drown and get flooded out). |

#1 I am not a flower expert and am learning just like you are. #2 I think if your gut is telling you to cover them up, then grab a sheet of plastic and some bricks or rocks and ..cover them up for protection from the elements. it just may be beneficial for the germination.

Okie dokie ... Yeah if we are going to get that much I think it may need some protection. I am waiting and watching hte weather forecast.

Good thing I moved the two planters and placed them under a chair. The wind was so bad last night that branches broke from trees and my neighbors sons heavy toy is in the middle of their yard that was on their deck. These would not have survived the wind or the amount of rain that came down in a short period of time.

I need to bring my plants over to you!!! I honestly think it is the potting mix I used.
Here are pictures of each pot. Each now sit under lounge chairs so they still get watered with what seeps thru the mesh. I took the plastic off because with the high winds it kinda got messed up anyway. You can see all the mess around the inside edges where mix must have settled with water build up and some seeds appeared to have moved but at least they are growing. Messy planter with water divots from where the hard rain was hitting and make a hole. The better of the two
Seeds moved for sure, looking at these they are not where I placed them.

Today I saw teeny weeny sprouts, but when I watered, they disappeared! I should have misted them. I am sure they will come back up.

I somehow think that some seeds were washed away. I know for sure many moved from where they were originally placed. You can also tell that these were not placed under chairs next to each other just by the way they are growing. I put them back up on the deck posts. I forgot to put the post lids back on however, oh well. Anyway t is supposed to rain again later but I hope not hard. Anyhoo, here they are today.
Hopefully they will fill out. I hope I put enough seeds in or they will look sparse. First time to grow so I will learn.

This morning I was out and watered both containers. So now I am ticked off. @cornne , did you send your critters to my house ? LOL Only kidding. Look what I found in my one container: This one will be stopped. 
It was not like that this morning. However the other one was fine. Here is a top and side view.
I am ticked. It was either a squirrel, bird or could have been a deer bit that is doubtful unless it was up on its hind legs. I do not know what else would get up on that ledge.

That would have me doing my war dance on the porch!  ![]() The nerve! I have mine inside sitting under a hood next to a 1 pod project just until it gets stronger. Your second one is really taking off. I hope it isn't eaten tonight. My neighbor was telling me this morning that her grass had a HUGE hole in it, like a tunnel. They just spent mucho bucks having the entire area dug up and professionally laid down. It looked like green velvet! ..Only to have an animal wreck it. I swear it was a woodchuck.

I hope it does not get to the other plant. I could not believe it. Never have I had anything like that. Last summer something treid to eat the Golden Greek Peppers I transplanted but a few nibbles and one eaten pepper. then I did not see it again but I also placed it on top of a table too.

I am looking forward to these coming along. It seems almost impossible to dodge squirrels where I am, they're always digging up anything that is potted -_- I do like the cage idea though.
Maybe some like tiny mesh/cover or something to protect them? A friend even suggested starting up the seeds indoors and then just moving it out when it gets a bit bigger. I just wasted some flowers in a pot that never grew sadly. Now I just have empty pots lol.

I do not bring any soil or mix in my house. I do not want to chance bugs. But I tried to save the invaded planter. I will get a picture the am. Still looks a hot mess but I found the sprouts mixed in.
