About how many days does it take after planting lettuce pods for the seedlings to show poking their little first leaves up? Today is #4 and nothing is visible yet.

With my Kale I didn’t see even any sign of life until the evening of the 8th. I planted on the 4th. Today it’s finally up and over the pod. Give it a little longer.

Did you plant the AG pods, if so what variety? It should also state on the pod label how many days it should take. Or your own seeds? Some may take longer then others I believe. Also depending on how far in the pod they are it can take a day or two longer.

Hang in there, ladyjane.
For some reason, my lettuce pods from AG took longer to visibly germinate than the custom seeds I use. But they finally are all doing well.
The Deer Tongue and the Parris Island took forever to show growth. They now are much smaller, but less delicate (with thicker leaves) than the others. But they look really hardy and healthy.

If memory serves mine came up sooner, but I was growing a different type of lettuce (a romaine type). The company will replace them for you but they’ll likely tell you to wait a bit longer. I hope they come up for you.

Can I fill my AeroGarden with AG heirloom salad green pods or will it be too crowded?
FYI - it's not the compact-sized Harvest, it's a 7-pod system, about the same size as my 9-pod Bounty.

I’m growing the 24-pod version of this kit. I planted 12 at a time, 1.5 weeks apart. In the first round it took 4-5 days to see some of the sprouts. In the second round they all sprouted within 48 hours.

Wow 12 pods will get you so much lettuce. My 6 are doing well now at 22 days. I am picking the larger leaves for my birds. All the leaves seem to be fragile. By fragile I mean they do not last long when picked. Wilt within 30 minutes. I think its time for me to make a little lettuce salad for diner tonight. Any good ideas out there? I cannot eat raw veggies due to a medical condition but lettuce is OK. MY mom used to make a nice bacon dressing and then pour it hot over the lettuce. It was delicious.

ladyjane, When I harvest my lettuce and know I am not going to eat it until later in the day or the next, I have wet a dish towel, rung it out for it to be damp, then I place my lettuce on the towel and gently roll it up. I place it in the fridge and when I am ready for it I unroll and use. It stays nice and fresh.

Welcome, jmjinmd. Your salad greens will absolutely do well in your 7-pod AG. The image below is of Johnny Seeds Green Forest Lettuce planted August 11 (with one haircut). In a Classic 7 LED. Your friendly greens expert, Happy Thanks! I've actually been around a few months. Mostly reading over the busy summer... now working on my 2nd (and 3rd) project. My first project had 3 pods with salad greens and the rest with herbs. The salad greens and basil grew amazingly fast! Some of the herbs didn't do well, I think because I didn't prune enough (especially the basil) and the smaller plants were deprived of light. I just started 2 new projects. My Bounty (9 pod) has all herbs, my original (7-pod) now has all salad greens (AG heirloom). Summer was busy... lots of travel, and I've missed my homegrown salad! I'm settled down for awhile so back to AG'ing!!

What a lovely lettuce project. My! I declare I have never seen such clean, pristine and neat gardens in a long while! Inspires me to get out the brillo and a utility knife and go after the crust around my machines from neglect. Makes me feel like I am so lazy!Maybe I should have fewer machines to tend!

Definitely something to stay on top of... I scrubbed the top 3 times the other day (with 3 different scrubbers) and there's still a little build-up that I couldn't remove! And that's after just one project over 4-5 months!

I can't really take credit, Corinne. Although I was an AG addict several years ago, I abandoned all of my machines when I drastically downsized to a new home. All of my current AGs are on the newish side, if not brand-new. Corinne and jmjinmd, wouldn't it be better to soak the decks in vinegar to dissolve the deposits?

Corinne and jmjinmd, wouldn't it be better to soak the decks in vinegar to dissolve the deposits? That probably would've been a lot easier. I'll keep that in mind for next time!

For removing deposits I now use Mike’s method of spraying the foam version of Barkeeper’s Friend on the crusty parts. After letting it sit for a bit most deposits come right off. To contain the mess of the overspray, I set my deck on the open door of my dishwasher, like I do when using baking spray on a pan. Works like a charm.

I had the same outcome as you did with the lettuce plants.

jmjinmd , the photo that I posted above with my Green Forest may have been misleading as it's the most upright and vertical lettuce I've ever grown. The AG Heirloom Salad Green Pods that I started on August 18 in my Ultra (about the same size as the Classic 7) is more typical of the lettuces that I've grown.
