Hi. New to the forum, and Aerogardens. Just got the Farm Plus set up and wondering how many tomato plants can I plant per 12 pod side (Farm has 24 pods total)
Thanks in advance for your expertise.

It’s my first time around with tomatoes in the Farm but based on my experience so far I’d say one plant per 12-pod unit. You could definitely grow two per unit, but they’d be crowded and neither would give a yield as good as if they were the only plant in the tank.

You can successfully grow two cherry tomato plants per side. I never had a problem with two heirloom plants on an Ultra. I always thought adding the jalapeno plant on a salsa garden was too much, though.

It depends on the type of tomato plant. But for the AG kit toms I agree with Nick and Mike, 1-2 plants.

So is this also correct that with a harvest slim and heirloom cherry toms i could only do one? And no herb pod at the other end?

If you try to grow basil, mint or dill, the herbs would outpace the tomatoes, forcing you to either trim the herbs or raise the lights. If you raise the lights, the tomatoes won't get enough light early on.

I know people say 1-2 per 12 holes. I had 3 and I agree. Two would have produced more in a 12 hole than 3 plants did. Not to mention the crazy amounts of water these plants drink. With 3 grown plants I was adding a gallon of water a day to keep the garden at "full". Granted my apartment could be dry and some of that was evaporation but mostly no.

In the very beginning there is no reason you can’t get a couple of herbs started in the other holes, just with the caveat that at some point they will have to be moved. In the meantime you will need to prune them but you can keep enjoying the trimmings.
