Hi! I just got my first Aerogarden in mid-December. My herbs are up and we are enjoying them on a daily basis. I already want another garden to plant salad greens. We like Romaine, red leaf, and buttercrunch types. What would be the best size/model garden to get to supply enough greens for a family of 3 to eat a side salad 4-6x per week? Thanks!

I’m currently growing greens for a family of 4 to eat salad 2-3 times per week.
I have found that you need at least 48 plants to keep a constant rotation of lettuce going. I’m using two of the Farm models to do that. I replant one of the Farms every 21 days or so. That seems to keep us stocked in lettuce.

Hi gina, I have grown lettuce in a Sprout and Ultra. If you want to feed a family of 3 4-6 times a week, you would probably need a Farm. I feed my husband and I with a Bounty one huge salad each per full cutting. I do not own a Farm so I can not tell you, Nick would have a better idea as well as others with the Farm.

Welcome, Gina.
I have most of the models, and they each have their advantages/disadvantages for salad greens.
The Ultra works best for me because it has the holes/pods at the most appropriate distance apart. If I'm correct, all of the others currently sold have the holes so close that the lettuce gets crowded.

My .02cents is that lettuce from any garden despite the lack of frequency with some models is a great thing. You will love just having it on hand, whenever it’s ready. Having said that, I do tend to agree with Happy that the Ultra with 7 holes is a good thing spacing wise (as opposed to the 9 hole Bounty). But, if you know you will always consistently be harvesting lettuce (we are less consistent at my house), Nick’s Farm is an outstanding supplier, and a beautiful thing to behold.
