Thanks for the quick reply Shawn!
Since I am new, I'll be starting with the Aerogarden pods to ensure I don't mess something up (it is important that the initial results are impressive - wife will be watching closely ;-)
For the ice cube thing - how often do you put them in? I imagine if putting 2-4 cubes into a bounty - that would bring down the temps for maybe 2-3 hours? The bounty also has a submersible pump that will be warming the water slightly?
At first you will not see much of a difference as the pump only runs twice a day in germination mode on a Bounty. I just stick my finger in the water and if it needs ice I add it. Once a day at most is what I do on the Harvest. I do not htink the pump adds heat. Not that I ever noticed. But I never paid attention to that. Our place can be pretty warm (thermostat is set to 77f, though it is set to allow up to 80F at night on the lower floors where these will live) ...folks that visit, sometimes comment our place is a bit warm, especially in the summer, when the AC sometimes struggles, especially with lots of door movement. We do run a separate dehumidifier to control odors/mold and make it seem cooler, but I don't think plants react the same way? (We try to keep humidity between 50-65%)
My house is humidity controlled and I keep it at 45% in the summer. I do keep it warmer during the day. Again I have not seen much of a difference. Yes they may grow differently but not in a bad way. You can always use a fan (many have clip ons) to keep air movement. Other may chime in on this as well.Any idea how these will fare?:
www.aerogarden.com/bok-choi-seed-pod-kit-12-pod.htmlI am not a Bok CHoi person so please wait for a member that does grow to add their responseWhen it comes to plant spacing:
- One should never go over 2 tomato or pepper plants per bounty/ultra? Maybe three if pushing it? I have 3 expired heirloom tomato pods - wondering what I'll do if all three germinate
Three may be pushing it. And give it a try, worse case senerio, they do not germinate)
- How dense can you put basil in the bounty/ultra and harvest units - ok to fully populate? Or one every other pod opening? (I am going to try to dedicate one unit per type of plant)
I have used all holes, while others do not. Check out the different gardens and how others layout theirs- I plan on using the harvest and classic only for greens, and the bounty/ultra for tomatos and peppers - however would greens grow better in a Bounty/Ultra than a Harvest/Classic?
I think they will do just fine anywhere. I have grown lettuce in a Sprout, Harvest and Ultra
- Would one get better yields/performance, but only putting one Tomato or Pepper plant per bounty/ultra?
- I was thinking down the line if I picked up a seed starter for the classic or harvest, I could probably load that up with Green Onion stubs (straight into the pods with little or no foam- due to the their vertical growth, they shouldn't really get over crowded?
I myself grow two peppers at a time in my Ultra/Bounty's. I have not grown tomatoes yet
