Well, I got my Xmas Wish and received a Harvest Touch model. I was looking online for part source just in case and found that AeroGarden does not offer a replacement light hood for this particular model. As the tech replied, they have passed this on to their production department. They said that the LED's should last 3-5 years. Somehow, that didn't bring a smile to my face. Keeping fingers crossed.

Not to worry. I had older Harvests for a few years and never had a problem. It was the Tall hoods that had the problems. welcome, and please just jump on in and tell about your proects!

Actually bought the unit for my spouse. It came with standard 6 herb (parsley, thyme, basil, mint and dill. Of course the basil went up first followed by dill, mint and one thyme. Parsley is just starting (after 20 days) One thyme hasn't done a thing. We are going to run the gambit on the herbs, harvest them and put them in some spare spice bottles we have. Then we are going to start on tomatoes. I was thinking after the tomatoes are mature of transferring them to an outdoor planter box. Living in the SW it is difficult to get any gardens started yet maintain them in the 110 degree summers.

Sounds like you have a plan. You can always contact AG if you have one of their pods not germinate. They will replace it. So I have to ask. who likes the machine better? you or your spouse? o

I think it is equal except she can't see her way to harvest (motherly love) and I am not sure what to do after with the young clippings. I have read a little; some say boil them, dry and freeze. We have saved some old spice jars to add the clippings. Suggestions would be appreciated as to when and what? Can we post pictures on this forum?

Yes you can post pictures, please see this thread as it tells you how to use a repository.
As for what to do with herbs, there are a couple threads in the Herbs board. Me personally, I take all my harvests, place them in freezer safe containers and freeze. When I need herbs I just take some (does not get swilly) and use it in a dish. It is just like fresh (but frozen). If I want fresh, I usually always have basil, oregano and cilantro growing to pick from.

It seems that I have 4 growing out of 6 at this time. Just how do you contact Aero when a pod doesn't grow? The Parsley is just getting started but no Thyme. I was looking to insert pictures but you only have outside prog to do so. I might try to convert my pictures to images and insert them here. The Dill looks spindly but is getting tall. The Mint is going wild but spreading to the rear and front instead of straight up. Both Basils are nice and rounded.

When I purchase Mint at retail, I found that the leaves are still attached to stems. Can I harvest my Mint the same way and then dry and put in glass jar to freeze? Last question; can AeroGarden plants be transplanted to regular window boxes. Having only one AeroGarden, I hate to just throw these away to say start growing tomatoes.

I have not grown mint yet however if you view this thread (Pruning (Harvesting) Herbs), scroll down and you will find how to prune Mint.
I personally just throw all my fresh herbs in freezer safe jars and freeze. But I am sure you can certainly dry them as well. But here is the Drying and Storing Herbs thread.
As for transplanting AG plant. A simple yes. All plants can be. Just if you can carefully remove the plant from the plastic cage wonderful. Save that for future projects. You leave the plant int he pod, just keeping the white cage. I save all my cages for other projects unless of course I am growing a pepper plant and it ruins it.

I watched the pruning of mint video and noticed that the plant viewed didn't look like my mint. It stems were uniform where mine seem to be thicker and reddish. I did forget to ask if and when I transplant these to planter boxes what would be better; keeping them indoors under grow lights or can I hang them outside exposed to the elements. NOTE: Live in Las Vegas - Hot Summers and Cold Winters. Not much spring or fall.

Hi Newbie, Im a Newbie too!
Regarding your mint, I have two aerogarden units and the two units have different types of mint in them. It was a surprise to me too. One has thicker reddish stems and grows more as a creeper, it stays low and grows kind of outward rather than upward. My other unit has a mint plant that grows up and not out and the stems are not at all reddish! One has tiny little leaves and one has your typical size and shape of mint leaf. Havent determined any difference in flavor as of yet. (and I'm in Las Vegas, too!)

Hi Ruth, thanks for the reply. Did your other mint (normal stem) have a different name on the pod?

They're both marked with just the word "mint." Very odd.

Hello and Welcome ruth. I wonder if AG had two different sources for their Mint seeds. That MIGHT be the answer. I will inquire about that with them tomorrow and advise of an answer should I get one.

Yes that would be odd since both of them definitely have different growing features. As you know, it is difficult to grow anything here in LV except palm trees, evergreens and weeds. I plan on doing a little DIY project using a storage bin and pvc pipe to build a larger version of the AeroGardens to grow Romain Lettuce and Tomatoes. Then I can keep growing herbs in my AeroGarden. Shawn; will look forward to you answer on the Mint. Thanks.

As for the Mint ruth, if you can post picture of what is growing so we can see the difference. You can view this thread for instructions on how to post pictures.
