So, I finally got my Bounty Elite & Space Saver 6 LED plugged in and setup yesterday! Very Exciting!
I set it for the light cycle to run over night (5pm - 10am) when temps are a little cooler in my house (located in South Florida) and I like having a nightlight on in the kitchen :-)
I did a temp check on the Bounty before heading to work this morning and was curious if my results were normal?:
- Ambient temperature was 69 F (Cold front blowing through and we don't have a heater - our house is usually around 78F)
- Surface temperature of the deck was 83 F
- Water temperature in the bowl/reservoir was 80 F
From the forum discussions and correspondence with Aerogarden support about ideal growth parameters, It seems 80F is the absolute limit to have proper plant growth/minimize bolting...
From my observations this morning, It seems that when the light cycle is running - it raises the deck temperature by 14 F and the water in the bowl/reservoir by 11 F - If this is the case when my house is at it'a usual temperatures of 78F - that would mean the deck would be around 92F, and the water temps in the bowl around 89F? Would this be too hot for the plants?
I'll have to do the ice cube thing, but some issues with that? - to bring the volume of water in the Bounty (lets say 1 gallon) from 80F to 70F - I would need 8 oz of ice each time (calculator: hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/thermo/cice.html )...and would probably need to do that twice a day (near the end of the light cycle, and near the beginning of the light cycle - when I leave and come back from work) - that seems like it would overfill the unit, especially early on? When our house is at regular temps (78F ambient - guesstimated water temp of 89) - it will need closer to 14 oz of ice for each time to bring it to 70F....
