The hoods would start to strobe. I have gotten a few to replace them and they have not done it. BUT..I saved my item boxes just in case."...
Here's how I fixed my LED hood (wouldn't turn on anymore)
Buy a 24V 6A power adapter. Here's what I used: Minger Power Supply 24V 6A Power Adapter Transformer for 5050 3528 5630 Flexible RGB LED Strip Lights, Tape Lights by MINGER Link (Amazon): a.co/2X0w5as
Prep work: a - disconnect all power sources b - open the hood, locate the wires connecting the transformer to the LED panel, NOTE THE POLARITY, cut the wires with as much length as possible left on the LED side c - discard the built in transformer - it's just dead weight otherwise d - cut the barrel connector off of your new power adapter (unless you want to purchase a matching female connector and solder it to the LED wires) e - strip and pre-twist all four wires
Connections: a - Use a multimeter to verify polarity on the power adapter b - twist the wires from the power adapter to the matching wire on the LED panel c - making sure no shorts will occur (positive and negative wires touching each other), power on the adapter to test the system d - if all works, solder the wires together, or at least ensure secure connections e - securely insulate the connections (heatshrink if you've got it, twist on connectors, electrical tape, etc) f - reassemble the hood. Note: I left my power adapter OUTSIDE of the hood. No reason to subject it to the same heat that killed the original transformer
Profit?
FWIW - Here's my review on Amazon for my Aerogarden: The transformer in the lamp assembly failed one day. AeroGarden quickly shipped me a whole replacement free of charge (as in entire garden new in box with a fresh herb set). I eventually replaced the transformer with an external one that I wired in (runs better, too, as it's not subject to the heat from the lamp itself). For those interested, here is the part: Minger Power Supply 24V 6A Power Adapter TransformerMinger Power Supply 24V 6A Power Adapter Transformer for 5050 3528 5630 Flexible RGB LED Strip Lights, Tape Lights Now I have two running gardens, with a little bit of elbow grease
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Amazon or Minger. I'm just sharing how I got my wife's anniversary gift working again.
