kinik you mentioned growing Strawberries in a Bounty on the Welcome thread. What variety are you growing, seed or crowns, and are you using a growbowl?

Mine were purchased as crowns from Aerogarden’s website, but I’m not sure of the exact variety. I started them in a Bounty using the grow bowl attachment and coco coir. Aerogarden sends you 10 crowns and recommends that you plant all of them. After a certain number of days you’re supposed to keep the healthiest 5 or so plants and discard the rest, but I ended up potting my discarded crowns in soil and kept them next to my Bounty. My “rejects” really took off and quickly outpaced those in the grow bowl, so I eventually gave up and moved all of my strawberries to a soil filled container under a grow light.

Fun! I wonder if the AG crowns can be planted directly in pots. What soil/potting mix and food source are you using?

Does anyone know what the AG strawberry variety is ? Probably a trade secret.

I apologize for the late response. My work has been exceptionally busy lately. I could definitely use a break soon! I use ferti.lome ultimate potting mix, and General Hydroponics Flora Series nutes in distilled water. I bet you could plant AG crowns directly in soil without any issues. Mine definitely seem to prefer soil, for sure! I recently rooted three of my runners into soil-filled Dixie cups, leaving their umbilicals intact. They’ve taken off quite well! After a few weeks I’ll cut the umbilicals and let them start establishing new plants on their own.

Do you get a lot of strawberries when grown in the bowl?

I did the AG strawberries last year, but I pulled them because the cocogrow AG uses in their kits got moldy and attracted gnats. I got an okay number of strawberries.
One thing I've learned about grow bowls is that they are much harder than the traditional AGs. The timing of the pump is difficult to get right and because the water sensor must either be removed (Bounty) or is constantly telling you to refill (Ultra) I have a hard time keeping the bowls filled properly.
I use expanded clay pebbles in mine and like them much better than the cocogrow. I haven't tried strawberries again, but I am using my bowls for peas with some success. They do much better there than in the pods.

Hello, I'm trying to get some input on my 2nd round of Strawberries + grow bowl in Bounty Elite before too much time passes (planted 3 days ago). The first round, I followed AG's instructions exactly, but they aren't great and my first set of crowns died out in about 2 weeks and were mush when I pulled them out. I did get one leaf set that died after a few days. Here's the instruction pieces that seemed incorrect: - Light: on for 2min/ off for 9999 - watering once a week did not work out. I've seen others do 2/58, but AG later recommended 2/5040 (3.5 days). I know they like "dry" but that seems extreme. Any consensus or advice?
- It's a little unclear on how deep to plant initially? I took the sad looking crowns and pushed them into the husk; didn't know to rinse them or anything. Also, not 100% on the depth of the crown vs roots..
- The instructions say nothing about removing the "fill to here" tube, but AG support told me to do it after I saw the bowl constantly filling and draining for an hour (after setting the min timer). Most of the other instructions I've seen haven't mentioned this part. Have others?
Thank you for any input/advice.

I did mine a couple times a day and it worked out okay. It should stay damp but not wet beneath the surface, and the surface should dry out between waterings.

I have not grown strawberries to date in the years I have been AG'ing. I think these Instructions may help as it shows a diagram on planting as well as the nozzle change over
I have also posted information in regards to using the Grow Anything Kit (yes, I know this is not what you are looking for but someone else may) here
I will let you know what I have come up with to answer your questions.
