I was doing some trimming this morning and noticed some little bugs on my parsley and cilantro. They don't appear to be affecting anything else (basil, oregano, thyme, chives, shungiku). What are these (aphids?) and how best to deal with them? HELP! ...and of course - how did they get there given that the garden is indoors?

While I have never had these ( on wood) They kinda look like spider mites. Are they only at top? How many are there? Did you check under the leaves? Are there eggs under the leaves? Do you have plants planted in dirt inside? If so they can have some eggs or larvae in them. I know myself and I think maybe two or more members will not bring in plants for this reason. Keeping fingers crossed it is just those two or three and you can eradicate them fast.
So doing a little research I found the following sites that may help:

They're all on the underside of the leaves.
I have no other indoor plants in the house although I have picked up an occasional herb at the supermarket that's still in dirt and had it nearby for a few days at a time (I've never seen anything on those).

I sympathize with you as I just had a major infestation and had to terminate a number of gardens. Darn bugs! Yes that potted herb from the store could definitely have brought them. But we can unknowingly bring them in on our clothes too. It just takes one. These bugs reproduce at a staggeringly fast rate. In fact some aphids are born already containing the next generation of eggs. It’s maddening. And now that it’s spring, where I live there are all kinds of flying tiny bugs every time I open the door.
