I planted these (2) cherry tomato plants in a Harvest Touch. It's getting a little crowded. They have been planted for 43 days. Can I go ahead and transplant them to my outside tote. Weather is in 80's and they would get afternoon sun as well as grow lights.

Sure, I don’t see why not. I’ve got 9 tomato plants outdoors already and it’s in the 70’s-80’s here (southern California). Where a you located? How cold are the night temps?

Las Vegas. So we probably get a bit hotter than you.. I think the biggest problem will be separating the roots removing them from the AeroGarden. Should I expect any shock from the transplant? Also, did you leave the original plastic net on the plant and what are you feeding your outdoor tomatoes?

Sometimes there is shock even under the best of circumstances. A couple things to do to avoid shock: 1) harden them off by placing them outdoors during the day (if they’re destined for outdoors after transplant), 2) damage the roots as little as possible which, depending on how far along the plant is, means transplanting the entire plastic basket along with the sponge and plant, 3) put some water (maybe fed water) in the dug hole before transplanting, and 4) some have said (though I haven’t tried) that the transplant will do better if you let the water in the reservoir get kinda low before transplanting to soil. Best of luck!

Oh and what I used outdoors for feeding was Texas Tomato Food which is liquid and needs to be mixed with water first. I think this food was originally designed for hydroponics but definitely works in soil.
However almost all my tomatoes now go into EarthBoxes now which use their granular fertilizer system. It’s foolproof for gardening dummies like me.

Thanks but my transplant will be from the AeroGarden to a Hydroponic Farm and Grow Tent. I realize everything you have said probably works both ways.

Oh gotcha. I should’ve realized that when you said “tote”.
