I bought my first AG a few weeks ago and 10 strawberry crowns from Amazon. Thought I'd share my experience at growing strawberries in a small Sprout. The first pictures are from planting on day one and the results after a week of growth. Note: Plant #3 died so I replaced it with another crown.

And here they are after changing the water and adding food on day 14.
That's #3, the replant, and it's doing quite well now. I'll update on day 21 with a few pix.
On day 18 I see a flower bloom coming in.

We're on day 21 and these are still iffy to me. There, on the left, are the strawberry flowers.
That's plant #1 and #2 and #3. #3 being the replant.

I am definitely no expert but I would remove the blooms until the plants gain so size and strength. I even do this with soil garden strawberries.

Should I cut them at the base of the stem or elsewhere upwards?

I would cut them close to the base.

OK, done and you can see that these strawberries aren't going anywhere but in the trash... Looks like a failed experiment after 28 days.

I'm sorry these didn't work out for you. I'm looking forward to your next experiment!

Well, cuz my lettuces are doing so well, I'll be 'planting' those tomatoes. I'm going to 'plant' the red cherry and yellow one.
