I know that metal knives or shears will brown lettuces if used to cut or prune. Do they make plastic snips? I couldn't find anything on the net myself. Does anybody out there have or use them?
Thanks all, Rick

I have heard that, but have just used metal ones. I was unable to find any myself. I think some folks have used plastic cutlery? Like using a plastic knife to cut their lettuce off?
If you want to avoid the brown edges, you can either just 'tear' off the lettuce and/or trim it closer to the base. Even when doing this, in my experience, there is some browning because the exposed edges are being exposed to air and thus oxidize. To my knowledge, other than for aesthetic reasons, there is nothing wrong with brown edges per se.

Try a craft store..kids' scissors will serve as well!

That's what I expected. It isn't a commonly used household item to mass produce. Kid's scissors are designed to be cutless with blunt or rounded noses. I don't think they'd work.
Funny, I believe I remember, many years ago, watching an infomercial advertising these exact shears to use to keep the browning down on veggies. Hmmm... maybe it was just a dream I had...
Anyway, again many thanks, all, Rick

Most of my utensils are bamboo anyway so I think I'll add this knife to my collection.

What isn't bamboo is stainless steel in my kitchen. Here's another you might like, Shawn;

You might want to try ceramic.

I have an almost full set of ceramic knives and scissors. I haven't broke any, yet. But I am missing a paring knife. It may have gone to work with me. They do work great.

This arrived today and let me warn you... it's Sharp, really Sharp with a capital 'S'. I have a bamboo cutting board too so the knife should stay Sharp for a while. It came with no instructions so I'm wondering how to sharpen or hone it?

I tried it on a tomato and it cut it but not real well. I'll keep it as a lettuce knife. It'll work very well for that.
You're welcome, Rick

Got those yesterday. I think they'll work just fine.
I've replanted my tomatoes and have the yellow toms in pod 1 and the red toms in pod 3. I'm going to leave the center empty cuz of the spreading/bushyness of these plants.
