Hello!
We are going to bite the bullet and get a Farm XL. We are not super pleased with the seed packs options that come with the unit, so we'll be buying other packs soon.
We have a very very old AG of some variety (does not have LED lights), so we'll drag that back out for herbs.
We are a household of 2 and really like cooking. I'm assuming that any of the seed packs can work in a Farm XL? Would just need to pay attention to spacing and not overcrowd.
I'm excited to look through and see what else I can grow!

Hello and welcome to the forum danastl!
Congrats on your incoming new Farm XL! I do not own a farm but they are nice looking units. I do not use their Kits at all anymore except for the Upcoming GAL (Grow-A-Long), I will use one for that.
As for other seeds I love doing custom. Be sure to check out the Seed Vendor Board. There is a list of Vendors as well as separate threads for some.
I too am now a household of two and also love cooking. I love having fresh herbs to pick from. I also freeze a lot when I trim the plants so if I do not have mature plants I can have fresh although frozen herbs.
What are you going to grow in your Farm XL? Any ideas?

Thank you! I will definitely look there - looking for inspiration!! I'd love to do some cherry tomatoes and some herbs (mint, rosemary, basil, maybe some lavender). I never thought to freeze the herbs! I'll have to look into that in the future!

I always freeze mine. They stay nice and green. However keep in mind that when you use them, take some out frozen and crush in your hands to place in your dish. If you leave them to defrost they will get mushy. I love to use them in dishes that are cooked.

We are planning to put the Farm in the basement. Is there anything else that is highly recommended we buy in addition to the kit?
Also what would the benefit be of the XL over the Plus, except if one is planning on keeping their plants a long time, or growing their own tall varieties?

The only difference I know is that the Plus has a 24" hood height and the XL has a 36". Other then that I do not know as I do not own any Farms

What Shawn said. The XL is nice if you plan on growing plants that are taller than 24 inches when mature. Otherwise it's the same as the other Farm models.
I haven't found my Farms to need much in the way of accessories.
