Interesting! I grew this a few months back, and mine did not look at all like that haha! Maybe it is also the lighting or the photo? Is it that purple in reality? Well, maybe a little less purple and more reddish. After harvesting these leaves there is lots more green in the newer growth.
I don't know what's came over me! I've let these lettuces grow for well over 28 days! I never pruned them at their 2" mark nor did I thin them down either! I must be loosing it. Well, After harvesting this morning, I am now enjoying a morning salad. These are very tasty lettuces. I will grow them again.
Awesome! Yeah, I have never thinned lettuce sprout. Per AGs tips, you are not supposed to. Maybe some do, but generally people do not thin. Yeah, I think mine was purplish tips, and then reddish, and greener toward the root. I remember it being a tasty. I am glad you are enjoying! Did you harvest at the base (whole leaf)? Or do the trimming method some use?

I took off the outside leaves leaving the newer inner growth to develop better allowing more light to get to all the plant. I did a 'haircut' once and didn't like it at all.

I agree. I have used both methods. I prefer the using of outer leaves, but sometimes when you get 9 pods all needing to be harvested just doing a straight line cut across the top of the garden was easier (and more variety). But it "leaves" the edges the brown (I have also used plastic scissors and a plastic knife). In any case these are all tiny "issues".

I've added two pods of Buttercrunch Lettuce seeds where the herbs were. I dropped two itty bitty seeds into two vacant pods and dropped them in the Harvest machine. I wonder if they will sprout.

I forgot the lettuces from yesterday. Here's after the first harvest.
Very very good combo, BTW.

I can see some of that on a tuna salad sandwich with some fresh toms out of my garden for lunch today!

I had the most wonderful salad for lunch today. Three kinds of lettuces, diced up carrot, dices up red onion, sliced up avocado, and dark red kidney beans. Yummy good. That'll be the 2nd harvest on the lettuces. Pix tomorrow. :-)

Lettuces are on day 42 and have been very delicious so far after 2 harvests. I definitely need to keep lettuce growing at all times, it's so good. I think I'll dedicate one of my Sprouts to that.
And here is the Buttercrunch I planted on the 3rd of September.

Looks great! Yes, they can grow very quickly! I have found once they are 'mature' the more often you can harvest small-ish amounts, the healthier it is. Enjoy a nice salad!

I think this is the 3rd harvest so I better enjoy it.
My little Buttercrunch is coming along too.
I'm looking forward to its harvest.

TERMINATED 10/01/19. Except the Buttercrunch. Day 28 for Buttercrunch.
The lettuces have all been added to a bowl and eaten with a smile. YUM! This poor plant got wet during the R&R this morning. All my machines were cleaned and rinsed today.
(Oh, I moved the Bok Choi into the Harvest BTW opening up another machine for planting.)

Why did you decide to terminate, thegrindre? Was it not producing anymore? Or just got tired of it?

Because as I 'plucked' all the outside leaves for a salad the plants kept growing taller and taller. They were bending over around the fully extended lighting of the Harvest machine. They didn't bush out, they grew straight up. So I ate them all.

If the leaves are thinning and is spindly stems I think that is a sign it is bolting.

"If the leaves are thinning and is spindly stems I think that is a sign it is bolting." Yes, that is exactly what they did. All three of them.
