I have a salsa garden growing in one of my harvests. The tomatoes are splitting before picking, sort of like over watered tomatoes in my outdoor garden. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

I am just growing my first tomatoes so I can not assist. Hopefully one of out tomato growers can help.

Could they be too ripe? That would happen to tomatoes in my garden when left on the plant for too long.

I've got to '3rd' that, over ripe sounds like the answer.

4th. I've been picking my tomatoes before fully ripe, even slightly green, and finishing them alongside the plants. Not only do I not get any more split tomatoes, I think they taste a little better too.

Thankfully I have not encountered split tomatoes. They say temperature fluctuations can cause splitting. Welcome stainless! |
