This was posted in one of my thread but I thought I would post it separately as I found the two annoying gnats I had floating around this morning. My juice really works The solution I use is as follows: Get a clear tall cup or taller bowl. Add equal parts of sugar and apple cider vinegar (more the better like 2T.). Mix well. Add water. When 3/4 filled add several drops of liquid dish detergent and add more water until you get suds on top. Leave out on a counter or table closer to the untils. Most of the time I will have the fliers at the bottom of the cup in the morning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are other home remedies for catching gnats/fruit flies: (I have never used or tried them) ~ pour leftover red wine into a jar. ~ Mash up banana slices in a jar and cover the top with a plastic wrap. ~ Pour bleach solution into the bathroom sink. Warning: do not mix bleach with ammonia. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 Ways to Instantly Get Rid of Fruit Flies & Gnats at Home
~ Create a simple fruit fly trap using apple cider vinegar and dish soap. ~ Place a bottle of stale wine next to the gnat-infested area. ~ Mash up rotten fruits in a jar and cover the top with a plastic wrap poked with tiny holes. ~ Burn the fruit flies to death by setting up a candle trap in a a dark room. ~ Place several sticky glue traps around the fruit fly-infested area. ~ Clear away or securely store all food in the kitchen and pantry.

I found a gnat flying around in my house so I am breaking out (or making, well actually made) my Gnat Juice. By the end of the day, the latest, it should be drowned.

Thanks for this info. While we don't have problems with gnats at home, knock on wood, I'll keep this handy for camping trips and sharing with others!

I live in Maryland where the Brood X Cicadas have recently emerged after 17 years. I was initially grossed out by the title "Bug Juice" because of all the talk about eating cicadas. I'm glad that's not what this thread was about!

I'm glad that's not what this thread was about! Oh, no! You reminded me of the time I was in Lincoln, Nebraska, on business. I was out after dark and the June Bugs were out! Ugghhhh! Everywhere, bugs, big, smacking into your face. Then I went to the airport and saw a t-shirt for sale. "When I die, I want to go to Lincoln, Nebraska...but not before that!" My sentiments, exactly! To any Lincoln folks, my apologies! Bugs! Ugh!

Ugh, I have to make the Bug Juice again... We have been having some beautiful days that I am able to keep the windows open. We have great cross ventilation and with the fans going it stays nice in the house even if it if hot outside. However I found a small hole in the screening of a window. Hence me having to make Big Juice ... I have since fixed the screen hole but now need to get a gnat or two out of the house.
I caught one I think there is one more. I hate bugs LOL...

Specifically for fungus gnats, not so much fruit flies, one of my favorite methods is to keep a butterwort plant (pinguicula). They're an amazing carnivorous plant which basically functions as reusable fly paper. The fungus gnats stick to the leaves and then next time you water it, the fly carcasses just wash off and the leaves renew the trap. No fertilizer needed (just need good quality water, like with all carnivorous plants).
They need a reasonable amount of (indirect) light, I used to have one on the window sill. I'm sure they'd be fine next to an aerogarden.
