Is there anybody out there that's dehydrating their spices/herbs? I use garlic powder, onion powder, chopped up parsley, ginger powder and whole ginger, oregano and a few others and was wondering if I could grow and dehydrate a few spices/herbs? Is anyone doing this successfully?

There have been those who did them in the oven and also purchased dehydrators. I think mike dehydrates lots of stuff.give him a shout or a pm. He's the pepper King and Chef Supreme with lots of good tips and methods for DIY.

I do it in the microwawe oven. It takes much less time and it works! There are several videos on you tube to teach you how to do it, but my two cents is to put herbs already chopped in small pieces on a piece of baking paper, otherwise herbs will stick on the dish. I hope my poor english will be clear enough to make you understand what I mean, otherwise feel free to ask for further explanations.

I usually use my oven. I don't own a microwave. Thanks Moffy. I understand the chopping up into small pieces first and using parchment paper.

I use a $20 food dehydrator. I love it. I feel I have better control of the heat and humidity and usually make a mess of things if I use the oven by over doing it. I think I will experiment with the microwave as our new member moffy suggests. If I could downsize a large piece of kitchen equipment like my dehydrator it would be a good thing. Like you I love especially granulated garlic which I put in a pepper grinder. Love, love, love it and it doesn't burn when you cook with it and homemade garlic is great for clearing your sinuses! No more store bought powdered garlic for me. This is off topic but when I dehydrate garlic I find that every house fly in twenty miles is on my window screens. What the heck is this all about? Is garlic a fly pheromone?
