I just planted grow your own dwarf bedding petunias from Ferry Morse in my Harvest. The seeds are like dust, so I ended up with probably 10 or 12 seeds per pod.
How many should I allow to grow per pod. After seeing Corinne's root trim pictures, I am afraid to do more than one!

when I get petunias, they are always pelleted..1 seed per pellet, and 1 will fill a pod when mature! I would do 2 max if it were my small machine. 1 if it is a sprout....but that is just 'me'.

Thanks, Corinne. I normally don't like pelleted seeds, but petunias would be an exception.
Looks like I've got lots of thinning ahead!

I am not a flower expert by any means, but,I particularly don;t care for pelleted seeds because they take so long to germinate from inside all that coating. But some seeds I get are so dust-like that it is best to buy them that way. it saves money for the vendor..instead of sending you 1,000 seeds he sends 50 in pellets and charges more! LOL I once purchased some lettuce seeds from Dave's seeds and they were taking FOREVER to do anything. So I decided to replant, but first try and break open the pellet. I was so angry to find, after I pulverized the pellet, that there was just one puny lettuce seed inside. What a robbery! After that surprise I now read carefully to see if the seeds are pelleted. But some seeds are best left pelleted when planting. Be aware that the petunia will take long to germinate, but...eventually it WILL. I have a flower suggestion I love which comes in a Pelleted CLUSTER! I highly recommend it for summer planting. I do this every year outside and even had one going in an Ultra during the winter...it is the Tropical Calibrachoa. Each pellet is like a tiny nest with each color flower within each nest! Fun. For the AG one only needs 3 pellets spaced apart because they mound. But these are beautiful and easy! OK .. I talk too much sometimes when it comes to flowers...but here is a great link....

You can never talk too much about flowers!
I had never heard of calibrachoas before, but I bookmarked that page. They are glorious!
Thanks for the warning about petunias being slow. It will save me a lot of needless worrying.

@cornne, for my clarification, If I plant these, are you saying to plant ONE pelleted seed per pod and only use THREE PODS? So whether I use a Harvest or large machine, space out the three pods?

If you are referring to the Calibrachoas, just 3 of the nests in a Tall machine. The 'nests' are clusters of different colored seeds clung together with vegetable glue. It looks like they are in a nest. One could fill all the holes with 1 nest, but it would really look bushy and very full..godd, I guess, if you like that. The plant is not one that will outgrow the hood of the Tall, but just may not do well as far as height and roots for a Harvest.
In a small machine, plant the small single Petunia seeds 1,2 max 3 in 1 pod. But I do not recommend the Cabibrachoas for a small machine. Does that clear it up? Sometimes I tend to post in a confusing manner when talking about flowers because my thoughts are flowing so fast!

I guess I was getting confused with the term nests. So with the Parks there are three colors in one seed. That seed is a nest? If so then only plant a total of three nests in a machine (tall).
Sorry, I am dense again today. I had a bad night of no sleep, vertigo and a headache to boot. Finally feeling better now thank goodness.

I planted an entire deck and they spread like crazy Today I would plant no more than 5 nests in a 7 pod for a nice full bushy project. They recommend planting only 3 in a hanging pot with soil and the result does actually look like the photo to give you an idea. And they like lots of sun and light.
