Does anyone know what the difference between cooking dill and pickling dill weed is? My grocery store lists both, but the pickling dill weed is out of stock. I want to make Tavern Eggs.

I've decided to use what I have. I have pickling spice, yellow mustard seeds, dill weed, whole black peppercorns, turmeric and salt. Add some Serrano peppers and Vidalia onion and I'll give that a try. My seasonings are getting a bit old, though.

I am just guessing but I would think Cooking Dill is the fern part of the plant. The leaves. Pickling Dill would be the dried flower head or just the seeds of the dill plant. Old recipes for pickles would call for one flower head of dill per pint and this was just he dill seeds from the flowers which were either totally dried or even in a semi-green state.

You know, I've grown the dill many times on the old Classic 7 machines successfully. They only had a 1-ft. hood. I did have to harvest often, but that was never a problem. Dill and basil are my favorites.
