When should I transplant marigolds from the pod to soil? (How high should they be? 3"?) And do I have to separate them? I just started a pod with marigolds. One has already sprouted but I put three seeds inside so expecting the other two will probably sprout soon.

I take mine out of the baskets when they have formed strong roots in the water and on the sides of the sponge. Then I plant them in soft soil and harden them off in front of a breezy window before taking them outside.

It would be hard to separate them once the roots start to intertwine.

I think if the roots are all in the sponge together it would be best to just plant the intact sponge in the soil.

flowers aren't usually thinned out. If you want a pot that has a lot of room between the flowers, then snip away. If you want a bushy project, I would leave them as is. However this particular seed makes a bushy plant. So it depends on the size of the pot! That you will have to decide because you know the pot size and you know the growth. You can plant all together now and then if they seem too full, cut back when they are too much for the pot. It wont hurt it in the long run.

I'm new to gardening so I have so many questions. LOL
