Started four pods of Early Purple Vienna Kohlrabi from Baker Creek. Each pod contains two seeds, no nutes added yet. Instead of using my 3D printed pod covers, I'm using up four of the official stick-on ones.

No seedlings yet, but I see roots in every pod! That's really interesting to me because from what I've heard (and from what the reviews on Baker Creek say) the seeds are hard to germinate. Maybe the AeroGarden is the secret to starting seeds after all

Seven of the eight seeds germinated! I've thinned the seedlings out, but the pod in the upper right has a very short seedling, such that the leaves are just barely above the hole in the sponge. Added 4ml of nutes.

I keep forgetting about this machine, but the seedlings seem vigorous so far.

I still don't know what to expect from these, but I think they're growing properly.

For as much as I neglect this plant, it seems to be doing well. It is on top of a dresser and away from the rest of my plants, so I often forget about it. The PPM had dropped down to 20 (!), so I added 4ml of nutes.

I disconnected the pump today - I will let it grow Kratky style for a bit and then harvest it once the water level drops.

How long will it be before the bulbs start forming?

How long will it be before the bulbs start forming? It might be a bit hard to see, but the bulbs are already there - kohlrabi is weird in that the leaves grow from the sides of the bulb, unlike radishes where the leaves grow from the top of the bulb.

Harvested this tonight! The bulbs were smaller than they looked, so I should have let it go a bit longer - but they tasted a bit like a turnip, albeit crunchier and with a more earthy flavor.
The leaves taste similar to cabbage but have a tougher texture, especially the ones that turned purple (too much light?). I set them aside and I think I'll use them to make sauerkraut.
Kohlrabi can grow quite large, and the longest you can wait is when the bulb is the size of a tennis ball - but most often, kohlrabi will be harvested when the bulb is about three inches wide. I think you have to measure from the very inside edges of the bulb, rather than including the protrusions from the leaves like I did.
Here's my self-survey: Plant Grown: Early Purple Vienna Kohlrabi Grow Method: AeroGarden Harvest Time to Germinate: 5 days Time to First Harvest: 40 days (since germination) Time to Last Harvest: 40 days (since germination) Plant Spacing: 4 per Harvest (67% usage) Final Height: 10 inches Would I grow these again? I don't think so. They had an interesting appearance and I would like to try growing them outdoors in the future, but I don't think I would find it worth growing in an AeroGarden versus something like turnips, which taste similar yet allow for more yield due to better horizontal space utilization. Lessons Learned: When growing kohlrabi, you don't want to cut off any healthy leaves, otherwise you'll affect the formation/shape of the bulb.
