Ok, so where I live we have well water ... I don’t drink it straight, won’t cook with it straight and even my doggies aren’t allowed to have it straight from the tap. Instead,I use the PUR faucet filter and change it religiously (as in the first few times the indicator light goes from green to yellow). For the refrigerator, not only does it have its own filter, but we also have a separate in-line filter hooked up to it.
My question is this: if I test the pH levels, and they are okay, do you think it would be ok to use my filtered water or should I just resign myself now to buying bottled water?

Probably should test with a dissolved solids meter, but I assume filtration should be enough. The guidance is usually distilled water or reverse-osmosis filtered.

I can only speak for myself. I have a filter on my cold water and use that. However people with a water softener usually use distilled. I do know a few people who have a softener and use that water.

I’m one of those who have a whole house water softener, and I’m supposed to use distilled water for my AG’s. I think this is because a filter can’t remove the high amount of added salt from the water. With respect to well water, I’m not sure what elements they specifically want to exclude.
I’m tempted to say that if you can drink the filtered water then your plants probably can too. But, I drink my softened water yet am still not supposed to use it for plants. Yesterday though, I was totally lazy and for the first time ever I fully filled a garden with my softened water. We shall see if they suffer any ill effects!

I did get a countertop distiller and defense used it a lot. Now that I get groceries delivered, I just have them deliver the distilled water and so I put the distiller in the garage. But I loved it. It was very useful. I ran it every day.
