well, I love it when a plan comes together. So, they're shipping me new Farm Plus, which is nice, but I still have the slight problem of three month-old sprouts suffering from lack of water circulation. I stopped off by You Blew it Electronics and spent $15 on a 15VAC power brick (which is the voltage I've seen people report that they measured on an aerogarden's pump outlet), brought it home and plugged it into the input power jack on the controller box. Right hand pump comes on. I go to the touchpad controls and tell it to test the left hand pump. It comes on. So, I have a workaround while I'm waiting for the replacement unit, and it validates my suspicion that it's the top unit (or possibly the left side rail). For now, it's working, albeit at the expense of two outlets.

And while there, I also picked up a spool of HIPS filament and solvent that is known to dissolve HIPS filament (it's a thing). So, more printer follies in the offing.

My Farm Pluses have been "processing" for over a week now, so it's not like they have them in stock, right? It's evil for them to be selling those expensive things with shoddy manufacturing but also non-existent... Maybe a sell-stop of some kind? Shipping back and forth en masse is going to be expensive.

It took them three weeks to ship my first one, and that was before the holidays. Some of the Farms currently say they don't ship until the week of 12/11, so I'm expecting my next two will ship about then as well. They seem to have a three week processing time for some reason. It may be that they rushed to market, or they may be keeping their inventory of these rather expensive machines low until they get an idea of what the demand will be.
Out of the three forum members have purchased, two are working just fine. 33% DOA rate is absolutely unacceptable, but we still don't have a sufficient pool to draw from. Once the second wave starts shipping I think we'll have a better idea of the quality of these things. If they did their job properly, there won't be any more for awhile.

Just to close out the thread, they shipped me the new one, my guess was correct, that it was the top piece that had the broken connection in it. I swapped it out in place (leaving the rest of the garden more or less intact), let the pieces sit around on my living room floor for a couple weeks, and finally got around to sending the broken unit back to aerogarden on the 27th.
The repaired garden seems to be working fine ever since.

How obvious is it that the pump is working I have assumed mine are working but it seems that the unit is very quiet. Now I am paranoid.

seeds, I am sure someone with a Farm will answer you. I myself do not have one so I can not assist in answering your question.

It's pretty simple, really.
Take the grow deck off, and if there's water bubbling up out of the spout in the middle of the bowl, the pump is working. if there isn't, go into the menu and find your way to the "Test Pump" option, select that, then look for the water bubbling up. If it still isn't, you have a pump issue.
The other way is that if you have an unplanted pod site, take the cover off, look inside and look for the little water spout that feeds the pod. If there's water flowing out of it, your pump is working; if not see above for using the "Test Pump" feature.
Normally, the thing runs VERY quiet which is why I went for a few days before I realized the pumps weren't working. If it starts getting noisy, you're probably low on water. In fact, that's how I can normally tell that a garden needs water is that it starts making water noises.

Mine is pretty quiet unless the water is low. It also depends on what types of plants you have in there. My tomatoes run all the time after the first two weeks, but the lettuce only runs a few minutes an hour.
The pump works similar to other types of Aerogardens where there are two layers to the deck. From the touch screen pump menu there is a test pump option that will guarantee it is supposed to be on, from there, you can either look in one of the holes to see if the water is running down, or what I do is just lift up the deck an inch or two and see if the water is coming out the spout in the middle.
