I've done a short tour through Aerogarden kit selection and have come to the conclusion that most of them are too bitter for me, and I generally prefer the Romaine to anything else they have on offer.
I also found the beet greens to be tasty, but not anywhere near productive enough to make growing them worthwhile.

Of all the AG greens you have currently growing there, which would you say is the mildest/least bitter?

I've been nomming on my red sails the most, with the rouge d'hiver coming in a close second. They are also in the front and thus are the easiest to reach, so that may be skewing my results, but I can happily eat those as is without dressing or anything.

Both sides are getting some leaf burn, although the cucumbers and tomatoes are perfectly happy with the same amount of nutrients. I'm going to halve the recommended amount of Flora nutes, as that does result in a pretty strong mixture, and reduce the AG nutes to 16ml from the recommended 24.

I'm eating salad almost every day at this point between the 12 plants here and the 6 in the other farm. I did a pretty heavy cleanup and replaced some of the plants that had bolted, so things are much thinner than the last picture I posted. I think I need to be more aggressive in my harvesting to keep my supply young so it doesn't get old and bitter. If I can keep this up, I can add a couple more plants to make up for the fact that I'm keeping them small.

That sounds like a good strategy. And if it works (keeping them less bitter), it would be worth it to cut even when you don’t want a salad and just throw some away, because in the long run you’ll have tender, younger lettuce when you want it.

I posted this in another thread and the AG Tips thread, AG said to never eat lettuce or herbs when you first add nutes and that will make them more bitter. It is best to eat a few days after to right before adding.

Thanks. I might try feeding my other farm with lettuce on the off week so I can stagger a bit.
