Started one seed in rockwool and placed it into a 16oz bottle, filled with nutrient solution at a rate of 5ml AG nutes and 1ml CALiMAGic per gallon.  |

The water evaporated faster than the roots grew, so the plant dried out a bit. I gave it more water and it's already perking back up.  |

The first flower is here! I'm surprised it looks different from both tomato and ground cherry flowers, since I assumed it would be close to one of the two.  |

Following with interest, as I planted some Burpee Gigante Tomatillo seeds in my Farm 24XL this past week. I planted 2 seeds each in 2 pods. One pod has 2 seeds sprouting already. The info for the seeds claim they grow to 20 inches. I guess we will see if that’s true or not.

Three flowers so far, but I learned today that tomatillos are self-incompatible, so they need another tomatillo plant to pollinate and produce fruit...
I'm going to keep this alive and see what happens.

Ended this tonight. I looked more into it and it doesn't seem like tomatillos will spontaneously self-pollinate, so I decided to use the bottle and space for a new plant instead. The whole plant was turning yellow, which I've never seen before - I assume that was due to the lack of pollination?   |
