Cleaned the ever living dickens out of my Extra and Sprout and loaded them with full seed starting decks on March 5th. While completely reorganizing that corner of the apartment and a closet in order to set up grow lights for the seedlings when they get potted out, I realized tonight that I never plugged the pump back in on my Extra. I'm honestly amazed at the number of seeds that have germinated regardless.

I don't know if the Extra has a button for it, but on my Harvests, I've gotten into the habit of pressing the Add Food button/light to run a pump cycle. I always have this worry that if I don't do that, then the nutrients I've added might burn the roots since they're more concentrated in an area, but I haven't tested that out to know for sure

Uh, oh! Maybe making a habit of using the "test pump" button is a good idea?

For what it's worth, I've done away with starting pods in machines and instead I just start them in glasses of water near an AG. The pump certainly helps with germination (especially if you don't soak your sponges first to wet the top!) but it's not necessary.
For growing plants, however, the pump adds oxygen to the water and circulates it which is very important for the plant's health.

Not sure that I'll use the glasses of water idea, but still good to know!
