I have been preparing the equipment for an outdoor tomato grown hydroponically right next to the same plants grown in soil. I needed a way to provide air to the buckets and keep the $80 air pump dry and cool. I could run long air lines from my garage but it get about 120F+ in there during the summer so a box under the shade of the plants is the best and only solution I could come up with. This was made with 1/2 PVC, pvc glue (same stuff you use on pvc pipe) and an air brad nailer. One thing to note, if you run all edges on a jointer a box made this way is water proof (holds water) as the glue melts the pvc to itself as long as you have good contact. I did fill it with water and had one drip from a board I left at the factor edge which was dinged up. I was going to use pv pipe elbows for the intake and exhaust but they were too large. Instead I model these with Onshape and 3d printed them with PETG plastic so they hold up in the sun.
Noise level is about 20db from 5' away in the basement with only a little water in the buckets. Should be quiet enough not to bothe the neighbors as there house and bedroom is about 15' from where this will live.
