In one side of my Farm XL I am growing a Sweet Million tomato. So far it is only a foot tall and without any fruit yet, but as it continues to grow it seems unlikely that the magnetic trellis will be sufficient to support it. What have you used successfully for such purposes? Or what have you used that did not work, so I can avoid repeating those plans? Photos would be especially welcome!

The magnetic things actually fell apart on me shortly after trying to use them! I use twine now - I tie lines across the front and back as the plant gets taller and then run smaller lines tying the plant to the front/back lines depending on which way it's leaning and needs support. I'll sometimes also tie the plant to the corner posts of the farm. I'm sure there's a neater way to do it that doesn't use so much string, but I've yet to succeed with any of my other experiments trying to support tall plants in my XL!

I'm too new to AG gardening to be able to give "experienced" advice, but, that said, I would be scared off by the "indeterminant" classification. Unless, of course, I planned to move them to the outdoors or a greenhouse, maybe? Likely, that's just my inexperience talking. There may well be ways to keep them pruned and/or trimmed and thriving within the height limits of the AG machine, XL or other... Please, let someone else speak up & I'll be interested to learn along side you!  |

Tomatoes are a vine. Anything you can rig up to support them will work. I use old bed sheet and rip them into strips to tie the tomatoes to my supports. Everyone has an old sheet they keep for a paint drop cloth and never use done they??  |

I have among others, a farm 24 xl.
I use the trellis that came with it and I guess I’ve been lucky as it hasn’t broke yet.
That trellis isn’t enough for my peppers and Cherokee heirloom tomatoes so this is my solution:
Went to harbor freight and bought a couple super cheap bungee cord assortments.
took the longer one and wrapped it around the whole farm. If you don’t have one that reaches all the way simply connect a small one to it to get all the way around.
I then took the smaller ones and ran across between the outer cord from to back.
I have wrapped a cord from the back over the front and connected it back to itself too.
works great

That is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. I have used wooden skewers and/ot the soft green velcro tape.

Clearly I'm in the minority, but I use the AG magnetic trellis to support peppers and tomatoes. It's important to use the shorter non-magnetic cords to connect the magnetic cords.
The AG instructions for the magnetic trellis are different for the Farm 12 series and the Farm series. The Farm 12 trellis magnets go on the OUTSIDE of the supporting posts. The Farm trellis magnets go on the INSIDE of the posts.
I bought some extra magnetic trellis kits, and add them as the plants grow taller in the AGs.
