Has anyone ever treated their lawn with pesticide? I've never had a problem big enough that I felt the need for more than those little spray bottles for spot treatments until this year. Yesterday was the first time I've done a full-yard treatment, I used this ready to spray treatment from Ace Hardware. I did manage to finish the whole back yard, but by the end of it I was completely soaked and frustrated, because the water was spraying backwards where the hose was attached in addition to spraying out of the end it was SUPPOSED to come out of. So... any idea what I did wrong there? I checked right at the start when it did that that the hose was screwed in all the way and not miss-threaded or anything, it was a good connection as far as I could tell. And any advice for the next time I feel the need to treat my yard? The flies have been horrific this year, and they're the kind that bite, I hate them!

I have never treated my lawn for bugs (except ants), but we have had more flies this year than I can remember, too.

Mark has treated our lawn in the past using that same type of product. However since we have Piper we no longer treat the back. We do have the exterminator come monthly for tick and mosquitoes however.

That may be the route I choose lol.

We have someone come out to treat the front lawn for weeds and bugs however the back we opted not to because of Piper. But when the exterminator comes I have to wait at least an hour before I let Piper out after treatment, I usually wait two to make sure

Makes sense, I did mine later in the evening because I wanted to keep the dogs off the lawn overnight after spraying to be sure, though the packaging said after 1-2 hours letting pets enter the treated area was fine. Of course that meant that Prince woke me up at 2 this morning with a howl next to the ear because he needed to potty and the doggy door was locked!

Did the product come with a washer to make a good seal on the hose? Like others, I'm wary of things because of the pups. Sometimes, Mikey will use it just before we leave for a camping trip, just to make sure it is dry and then soaked in with a good rain too. It rains here year round though.

Yup there was a washer for the hose connection, and it looked undamaged. Maybe the water pressure was just too much for the bottle? :|

Maybe time to check into pest control folks. We have one that goes to MIL's quarterly for about a hundred bucks. Well worth it and seems to keep the Carpenter Ants away from her house. Found some, years ago & that's when we found the folks to come treat for them. I'm told they just move from one place to another, as folks chase them away, so we started the quarterly set up. Maybe that would discourage other pests too?

maskedsonnet, a thought occurred: Have you considered a "trap" instead of spray? We got traps to discourage the wasps or hornets, or whatever they are, from building another nest around here. I know there are lots of fly kind of traps too. I guess you would need to figure out exactly what kind of flies have become pests in order to figure out what trap might be best? Maybe someone at the local ag department or even someone at the local hardware or lawn & garden store might be of some help? They often know what folks around are complaining about & buying to get rid of them too? Just a thought.

I might hang some sticky traps around the back door where the flies like to congregate. I put these pods inside my garbage cans, since they were swarming around and inside those even while empty. That's helped a get them out of the inside of the cans and even vastly reduced the number of flies around the outside of them, which is great! Maybe some traps around the porch along with those pods will help. The flies kind of look like horse flies, and they bite like them too. They also swarm around my dogs' poo, which makes the daily cleanup a misery instead of a smelly but otherwise pleasant stroll around the yard. I've never had an issue with that until this year, I think all the rain we've had has woken some things up. :(
