I have been in touch with Shawn. She wanted me to let everyone know she is healing.
She sees her doctor on Monday, and hopes to be able to sit up and be back on the forum after that.
It will be so good to have her back! I miss her!

P.S. I've been thinking it might be nice to have a "Planned Absence" or "MIA" section where we can post and we can check in on others too??? If that makes any sense?

I've seen "Comings and Goings" in other forums. Members post when they're going to be away, and post again when they return, with as much explanation of what they've been up to as they feel like sharing. Hopefully Shawn will heal fast, and feel much better generally because of the surgery.

Hello All!
Today is the first day I am really able to sit and get a quick message in. I will say that this being #4 on my back I really thought I knew what I was in for. But let me tell you, it has kicked my back side. It is weird I can feel all the hardware and rods. Not in a bad way but weird.
Anyway. I hope to check in more. I saw your requests for a Comings and Goings and I will consider the suggestion!
I must step back now. I will check in more and update some threads.

Today I am going for my Post Op appointment and pray I get good news. I will update later and then hopefully I will be able to move around and sit more and then I can read and post. It is so hard doing it from my phone.
Wish me luck...

Ok, so I saw the surgeon this morning.
They took xrays, removed bandages, snipped a couple stitches answered questions, listened and asked questions.
Well I can now do a LITTLE more but still not BLT's (bending, lifting, twisting), list nothing heavy however can drive locally if needed. All stitches are inside and will dissolved. All steristrips will come off when they fall off.
He showed me before and after xrays (and I have them too) and saw all the new hardware along with a straight spine. Before I had a slight curvature in that area.
My concerns are that sometimes when I sit, stand or walk I get pains from the groin to my knee. This is normal and I need to strengthen the muscles. Another one is that at night I get severe pain in my one leg. Again, normal. My nerves were so compressed for so long so the release along with all the movement they had during surgery takes time to recover. This can take a few months to resolves but get better in time. Medications have been refilled as well. So now If I am not walking or doing LIGHT stuff in the house I will still be laying around. Now I need to go walk a little and lay down as my sitting time I have exhausted. Will return later

This sounds like it is all good news, Shawn! I'm sorry that there is still pain, but it sounds like there will soon be a time that this will be banished! Maybe you'll think of some places to visit that allow for an easy walk about? Something to plan and look forward to? At our closest park, they have a little circle area that is maybe 100 feet around..maybe? Anyway, it is a place I like to take Cadie to work on manners. It is right by the parking lot and we can walk around once or 10 times. Whatever is needed. Many times, I see folks there with walkers or a cane, doing the same thing. Building up to longer walks, on a nice flat/safe surface? Of course, I see them at the mall too! LOL...sometimes we need a change of scenery?

It's good to hear that the pain you're experiencing is normal, Shawn .Sorry that you have the pain, but .... Straight spine showing in the X-rays! Yay!

Just an update...
I am coming along, some days better then others. But I AM doing better. I still can not care for my gardens like I would want but Mark is doing great at keeping water in them.
Reaper will be coming back for a few days. When here I will have the reaper carefully under a watchful eye clean up all the fallen dried and brown flowers that fell off. That is ALL that will be touched.
Reaper will really be here to do all the ironing, clean the bathrooms for me and change the linens. Hopefully only a three day, two not jaunt.

I'm glad to hear that you continue to improve. I'm doubly glad to hear that you have help with chores so that they get done without you doing them!
