Started up the Microgreens garden again. Forgot to wet the felt before adding the seeds and starting the pump--a mistake that I won't make again! A lot of the seeds washed down into the Bounty microgreens deck and bowl, so I cleaned them out and refilled the bowl. The seeds on the left are Johnny's Rainbow Sprinkles (beets and chard). The ones on the right are Aerogarden Spicy Mix (Daikon radish, purple stem radish, red cabbage, arugula, green mustard, ruby streaks red mustard).

I enjoy watching these grow. One day I may try them if I can find one I would want to grow.

Now the AG "Deals" tab and emails are strictly off limits!

I decided to grow microgreens in a sprouting jar again. This time I am growing the spicy mixture. Last time I grew mostly alfalfa, and it tasted like grass to me.
I leaned to just eat a tiny pinch on a sandwich. If I eat a lot, they upset my stomach.

Harvested the current batch of microgreens after 8 days. The beet/chard sprouts tasted like beets and chard, but were disappointing. Started over with same seeds, using True Leaf mats cut to cover larger area of deck. Spread 3 tsp. of seeds in single layer on wet mat, and sprinkled seeds with water. After flooding, the seeds barely budged. I reset the days planted to 0 days, and changed the nutrient schedule to 4 days to remind me to change the water.

It's farewell to the microgreens garden for now (10/29/21, after several harvests). The microgreens are rather flavorless, which I guess is a common complaint about hydroponic microgreens. I'll try again with experimental nutrients to enhance flavor, but I need to research which ones to use. The AG Spicy mix has some radish flavor. However, the radishes grow so fast that they shade out the others, and you end up with mostly radish microgreens. In the photo, the microgreens on the left are AG Spicy, planted about 3 days ago, and you can see how large the radishes are. The microgreens on the right are AG Supergreens after about 10 days. They're growing in a Bounty Elite with 4mg of AG nutes added at every 4-day water change. Some fibers from the fragile True Leaf MicroMats pads come up with some early sprouts, so one needs to clip the stems carefully to avoid harvesting fibers. The AG felt doesn't do this, but it's currently out of stock. True Leaf sells other growing pads that are more durable than MicroMats.

They grew so thick and nice-looking, it's a shame they don't have much flavor!! Hope you have success down the line with adding nutrients to make them tasty!

Too bad on the lack of flavor. Hopefully you will find something that will taste better.

One site suggests using liquid kelp and/or FloraGro to improve flavor, so I ordered some. I'll try it after the GAL produces flowers to transplant outdoors, and frees up the AG.
