The yams did me in! My blood sugar may never come down.

Yams are one of my favorite things too. I like them candied. Mikey will pass on candied yams and MIL prefers just a plain baked in the skin yam. However we all like them in my "Roasted Root Veggies" dish. Just peel them & chop them into chunks along with chunks of red onion, carrots and turnips, and...this time I added some beets too. Everyone agreed that the beets were a good thing. Anyway, you make a sauce of olive oil, honey, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and thyme and then roast them for an hour. I like them as, to me, this can stand in the place of a yams dish and a veggie dish.

Oh, they were candied. I used 3/4 bag of marshmallows. I fought my sugar all night. I woke up on the kitchen floor this morning. Not good.
BTW, that is an old Martha Stewart recipe for the bird. Melt 3 sticks of butter and combine with 1 cup chicken stock. Cover the bird in cheesecloth you soaked in this liquid. Then baste the bird every half hour in that juice. About 4 hours.

I don't like hearing this one bit!!! While it won't be the "same"...surely there's another way you can enjoy yams and not wake up on the floor!? Forget about Santa! You're on my naughty list!

Yeah, I took some melatonin last night. That made it worse.

Yeah, I took some melatonin last night. That made it worse. Melatonin works by lowering one's blood pressure. It doesn't play well with lots of RX meds. My Mikey can't use it because he takes meds for his Auto-immune issues. Anyone that takes blood pressure meds shouldn't take it either, I'm told.

Yeah, I've had bad results with it before. But it does help me sleep. I threw out the bag of extra strength gummies this morning.

I understand that a spoonful of peanut better can have the same benefit. Not sure if that would work for you, but it works for me! Of course, I love peanut butter! Making "Super Bird" sandwiches for lunch. Turky, bacon, Swiss Cheese and Tomato on sour dough, grilled until toasted. Yum! (Denny's copycat sandwich.)

I love peanut butter, too. I have a subscription with Amazon to send me a case of Jif 13 oz. tubes of creamy peanut butter every other month. They are perfect for peanut butter celery. Jif

That's the only way to deal with stuff you know you shouldn't consume (e.g. in my case, Halloween candy). Willpower always fails when you start thinking it might be a good idea to have something that you know may be bad for you.

Yes, I feel pretty good right now. Yesterday was awful. The Melatonin had me so lethargic I got nothing done at all. I went back to bed at least five times. Yuck!
Today, I have to be careful. I have no blood sugar readings for the next two hours. It is sensor change day. It looked to be OK, a tad high before it expired. But I haven't eaten yet. I grilled a chicken breast last night and cut it up to make a couple of low carb wraps this morning. Then at noon it's on! It's game day. Michigan vs. Ohio. It's On!
Have a nice day, folks.
